Adding preload does not effect the spring rate of a linear spring. Compress a linear coil one inch from preload (force) is no different than compressing it one inch from weight (force). It does not compound. What goes in is a proportional amount to what comes out. Tightening the collar will result in a smaller coil length when measured off the truck- no doubt about that. When put on the trucks weight (force), the only difference will be the height of the vehicle (coil pushed back with an equal an opposite force to the trucks weight) assuming the shock shaft still has down travel.

I do consider skip a friend and this a friendly debate. From my standpoint this is just a scholarly debate, not an attack on character or ego. It’s not about “winning”. I look forward to being wrong more than being right, because it’s an opportunity to learn something new. This is a great way to have a deeper understanding of a topic, but I think we’re running around in circles until an experiment can be done. I’ve appreciated the debate and a chance to dive deeper around here @ovrlndkull

Of course, I was just trying to be funny. Everyone knows Scotty and I had a lot of debates just like this and then go offraod together the next day. Don't take me serious, just trying to lighten it up.

I know, just felt I needed to voice that. I probably sound serious sometimes and don’t realize or intend it. I learn a lot from this thread and it’s nice to dive deeper and learn more from you guys.

Yes Sir I have learned a lot here but I'm still going to mess with people when I can. I don't have to worry about getting shot in here, lol

You are correct but that's where your corner weight of vehicle comes into play which is why it's important to understand at what point that happens which is why I give the example I give.

1800lb corner weight compresses a 600# spring 3 in well if you preload that spring 2.5" of it which is done at full extension of the CO that means it's only gonna compress another .5". Well the spring may be the same coil height but the CO will be at different lengths.

That CO with an unpreloaded spring that the vehicle compresses will be 3" shorter under vehicle load. Crank that coil seat down and yes what happens is you're adding preload it may appear what's happening in AccuTunes depiction but it's adding preload which shortens the bump of the shock.

This is very prevalent if you use too short of springs and easier to show.

The reason they state the shock doesn't get full compression is because the more you preload the closer and less movement of the suspension it takes to get into coil bind..

I really need to draw some fucking pictures or learn how to do animations and explain it.
Shit I don't take anything serious or get butt hurt about shit. I am pationate about shit that gets spread when it's misinformation. I've got nothing against you more frustration with Accutune and their poor representation of how this shit works and now people have a misunderstanding and then it perpetuates the spread.
Don't venture into good tech stuff on pirate, mind fucking blown!!! There is some shit on there totally nuts those guys are doing some next level crazy shit. I don't even understand how the crap they come up with works.

    Yo yo!!

Anyone have some extended rear brake lines they want to sell? 2013 taco. If you have some uninstalled and don’t plan to anytime soon, I could buy em from you and have a replacement shipped to your house? Need em by Tuesday so shipping to me isn’t an option right now….

In Valdosta currently, will be driving back up to Huntsville on Monday.

Gotcha. Yeah you gotta dig the old Pirate archives and find all the good stuff. I'll have to check it out.

The guy who started Pirate just did that video series with flex rocks and rollovers well his 12 yr old son wheeled the shit out of their jeep.

That would be awesome. But I'm talking about some of the build threads that got pretty crazy into some next level shit with suspension geometry and stuff if he could get those too that would be even better.
