What you want is the "Quad-Fecta" which is a Quad band radio and antenna. For the radio you can go good and expensive and Yaesu FT-8900 or whatever. Or go for the cheap version which is a TYT TH-9800 and run a Diamond CE8900A antenna. That will give you everything you need adding CB and UHF/VHF to the mix. Its the perfect setup for 4X4's!

Hey Ben - I mounted the antenna using a bed rail mount. I know it's a less than ideal spot but on VHF/UHF I haven't had any issues hitting the local repeaters. I know an NMO roof mounted antenna would be ideal but I can't bring myself to start drilling holes in my new truck just yet.

High Sierra Sidekick is on the way. Used screwdriver antennas are hard to come by these days. Got it for $275. Now I'm going down the dark road of HF mobile. I'm already having trouble figuring out where to put my D710G in the 1992 Pickup.

I actually think we have two rolls of different sizes. My EFHW wire is stuff I got from work. Mil-spec stuff. I need a velcro strap to hold my straight key to my leg to carry on a CW QSO while driving. Is that illegal in any states other than California? o_O

Can anyone confirm that the Yaesu FTM-400 bluetooth module plays nice with a 3rd gen Taco?

Was working an offroad race so having a radio, all your maps and checkpoint sheets, etc all at hand makes a hill people gear bag pretty convenient.

The 42" whip means being able to actually receive radio traffic from control instead of just static.
