you need kdmax. I can’t believe I drove my truck for 3 years without it. If for some reason I couldn’t have this tune I’d have to part ways with my Tacoma now that I’ve tasted the sweet side. Fixed all of that.

Honestly, it depends on how dead it is. I was in the same situation with a completely flat battery on my carb'ed bike with electronic ignition. 150ft of trying to bump it just meant a long push back up hill to my garage.

Still, with some charge in the battery, I've bump started the Taco and other canbus cars with no problem.

So Myles G can you expand on the kdmax tune? I have been following the tune thread but most talk has been about the AT which we already know is junk. I have the surge at around 2800 rpm or near there. It drives me nuts and makes it tough to teach my teens to drive a MT. It causes them to get into the jerk and jump rhythm. It is tough when you add the tall gears. Anything else to sell me on about the tune?

All of the vF 2.0 Tunes sort out the AT and bump the low end torque significantly to make the Taco feel normal and fun. The engine and transmissions are excellent hardware. It is just a 2mb file fucking them up.

I’m sure you’re are right. As far as longevity goes toyota makes great products I have 2 in my garage and left GM due to their constant recalls and bull crap. My only knock against toyota is I feel like they are making trucks too civilized. Tall gears and soft clutch. I can fix these problems but my 1990 pick up was really great. I think they are following everyone else and building “city” trucks.

I do not disagree and was shocked the first time I got in a 3rd Gen. It was a spaceship compared to the 1st and 2nd Gens.

I went with a no option MT for the reason that I want it to last as long as possible. Minimal gizmos and no TSS-P on purpose.

At 50k with a few mods, it has proven excellent though.

In all honesty, the plain fact is that anything beyond a slow ass 1980s NA diesel, we're all fucked if we don't get the proper fluids.

You can't start trucks with an alternator by push starting if the battery is completely dead because the alternator requires exciter current to work. Truck with generators would start if the battery was completely dead because generators have permanent magnets.

There is a black version as well. It was offered in combination the 4WD selector knob for the FJ. If I was going to get one again it would be that one.

I like the engagement that comes with driving a MT; I'm not judging anyone but I never got the same enjoyment from an AT. Plus most of my family/friends can't drive a MT... ;)

I drive a slushbox automatic for work, hundreds of miles a day. I bought a manual so I could enjoy the drive and feel engaged. Most everyone in my family can drive a manual though, so that's no real solace. I just tell them no.

Power surge is flattened out. More power in low rpms. Not a race truck by any means but it drives as it should. I’m on 35s so I really needed that low end power.

Riding the clutch in reverse won’t hurt it no more than you’ll use that gear.
