Hey everyone. Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place. I have a 2016 2.7 auto, 79k miles. Noticed this very slight dampness on the steering boots. Have never had to add fluid. I check it every month. Is this slow enough to not worry about? I only see the dampness on the boots, dont see it on any other component. Thanks!20210529_223708.jpg 20210529_223745.jpg20210529_223949.jpg 20210529_224002.jpg

Couple months back i turkey baster swapped in a fresh quart of dexron III over a few days. Wish i wouldve inspected it first to see if this was taking place before or after i did the swap. Just wanted to keep up on maintenance and keep fluids fresh

Damn ok. 3 of us so far. Have you ever needed to top off on fluid?

Make it 4. Yes, I have added fluid exactly once in the year or so since I first noticed. I'm at 58k miles now.

I made a thread about it last August when I first found it.

Thanks for that link, Sir Dangle. Looks like i dont have too much to worry about. Ive never been low on fluid and have stock tires. If i have to replace a steering rack/pump on a truck im still paying for im gonna be one sad panda

I mean, if you have a warranty take it in. I'm on my own, so I'm waiting for it to start dripping before I deal with it.

Mine look like that on my 2nd generation. I noticed about 4 years ago. It's been 200k miles and only ever added fluid once.

Sadly, my warranty ran out 19k miles ago. I think ill take the Dangle approach and continue to monitor it closely until it drips. Thanks friend.

Well thats good to know! I just swapped in a quart of valvoline maxlife atf, so i guess ill see if that can help slow whatever leak is happening with its seal conditioners. Ill keep an eye on it, but so far my level has never been low

Has anyone tracked down the source of the leaks (as in taking rack apart and replacing seals) or just changed or let dealer change rack. One more thing to keep an eye on the Coyota.

I mean it has to be the seals on the shaft, no?

Right, but are they failing due to tears, getting old and burnt, contamination, bad fluid... etc. If there are better aftermarket seals or replacing your fluid more often to prevent it.
