Lots of variables. Is it public land? Ladder stands are good if you can leave them a couple weeks minimum to your hunt, X-stand is a light climber. Just remember if you get something you will have multiple trips in and out. Is it flat ground? A deer cart is nice if its flat.

With climber stand always have harness on, from start to finish. Also leave a good time when you should be back to wife/significant other/friend of your location in case you dont come back or are injured/ stuck in tree. I used to pull my bow up after i got situated in stand.

It’s on public land. Very hilly so I’ll be breaking down the deer. How much do these stands usually weigh? Can you somehow lock them up?

Not sure on rules in your state. Some states require a tag or something identifying its your stand. You can lock them in some states but again it can be first come first served, even if its your stand, depending on state. Climber is prob a better way to go but you have to have a bit of practice to get used to going up and down if you have the right size tree. Look at "X-Stand" its going to be the lightest at about 11pounds. Summit is good brand but some stands can weigh up to 40lbs alone. Not including gear and harness.

Look into a deer sled or a meat carrying back pack

Ideally you could put stand up, people leave it alone, and buck of lifetime walks in front of your stand and you make a perfect shot, it goes 5ft and dies.

BUT people are stupid, steal your stuff, walk into your area, smoke cigarettes, talk, make a bunch of noise, did i mention steal your stuff...

Dont let that discourage you. It can be done, you can harvest an animal, you just have to work hard, put in extra effort. Bow hunting is really rewarding in the end.

A lot of archery guys are into saddle hunting, easy transport and climbing if you're comfortable w/it. I think I'm gonna give it a shot this season w/my rifle, since the land I hunt on has some really good spots that aren't cleared out but have a ton of movement.

If you go to a saddle make sure you get some practice prior to season- same with a stand but in different capacities.

If you look around sometimes there are saddle hunting meetups where you can go try out a few different models/brands. I would recommend trying this as comfort from one option to another is a lot bigger of a difference when comparing saddle vs comparing stands to me.

Do you have an x stand climber? Or anyone else? One popped up on Facebook and I’m tempted to get it. Going to check it out tomorrow if I can squeeze it in.

I don't have one but they seem a little janky to me. Just my opinion from seeing one in person.

That makes me a little cautious. Janky climbers are the worst of the worst to me - makes me think of baker. You use a climber pretty much exclusively correct? Do you find you can get up into a tree in most areas you want to set up or do you have to pass areas sometimes? Also do you stick to pines mostly or can you find other trees with minimal branches as well?

I rarely have problems finding a tree (and I don't think I've ever climbed a pine). Sometimes you have to be creative, but it's not that hard (in my area) to find something that will work. I use an API Bowhunter 100% of the time.
