I reached out to him before I bought, he sent me PayPal instructions and shipped the next day. I do believe I caught him on a day when he had an extra, plus he’s in Tucson and I’m in PHX so it only took a day to get them. Still have them, haven’t pulled the trigger on the lights yet.

I’m out of town now but will be back Sunday. If you still need the harness I can send you mine and you ship yours to me whenever you get it. Just send me a PM if you’re interested

    Hey All,

I just wanted to vouch for Mike, He sent me out a replacement harness when a clip broke on my current one.
The guy is legit and his product is great!

I got my replacement harness and it broke the clip the exact same way...
    What am I doing wrong?
No problem on the passenger side. The exact clip broke the exact same way. I plug it in and the tab snaps off.

Sounds like he got a bad batch of connectors.

So, there are OEM grade connectors and knockoffs. The OEM ones have numbers on them. I'll post some photos. The knockoffs typically don't have the part numbers on them. Now, maybe your grip strength is just superhuman (as hinted at before) but if you have normal strength you shouldn't be breaking the connector. And there's only one way these things can fit plus you've got it working so I'm trusting you're not trying to smash it in the wrong way :)

The OEM grade connectors are pricey, $4-$6 a pop so if you use 4 of them in a pair of harnesses that's $20 right there, plus another $2-$3 ish for the MX150's and maybe 50 cents for the male H9's, plus wire, plus at least $1 for each sidemarker cap, around $30 in raw parts for "premium" connectors. One obvious way to cut costs is to not use OEM grade connectors and pay full (inflated) price on them.

The knockoffs should be around $1 when purchased in bulk (quantities of 100+) after spreading the shipping around, but require a loooooong lead time (slow boat from china sort of thing). I have some of the sidemarkers (also the same as the reverse male connector) inbound for at least 3 weeks now, they show up when they show up, not a moment before.

I've thought about buying knockoff DRL connectors but so far I haven't taken the plunge. The price differential is significant.

Want to check yours to look for a part number? I'll post a photo of the ones I use with the number right now.

    Hey David!
Sure I can check, were can I buy an OEM connector or one like you use? I would like to try and de-pin this current one and install new one.

    Thanks for the info!

The DIY thread has all the info and links in it. DRL's are here. Corsa is my favorite local vendor, but the prices, particularly on this specific connector, can feel a little painful sometimes when it's just a hunk of plastic.

I thought about mentioning that but didn't want to confuse you. It's irrelevant if you're not going to cut and re-crimp. I think Mike uses 18 gauge but my only Mike harness is in the truck. Still I remember it feeling like 18. SL2's are the right size for 18 gauge seals.

When it's a dropdown of 3 sizes, typically it's Small, Medium, Large in that order. Where it gets more complicated is with the Sumitomo seals which have 4 sizes (yeah, wtf right?).

I recommend doing what I did when my factory clip broke. Tape it and move on. They’re LEDs, they unlikely to fail for a very long time and even if they do, you can just re-tape it. Use quality 3M electrical tape. I learned to quit screwing around with cheap tape a while back.

Hey guys - question on the image below. I want the 2020 OEM LED’s without the TRD PRO lettering and I thought the two circled below ending in 04290 were the right ones but but it says it without sequential turn.

Is that correct? I thought all 2020 LED came with sequential turns.

It says that, but they do have sequential turn. That’s what came with my truck.

First post on TW, sorry it's going to be a bit of a rant. I just took delivery of my 21 OR DCLB yesterday from the dealership. The only package that I had to have was the OEM LED Headlights. A great bargain at $485. I made this clear to my salesperson and reiterated that I was only interested in OEM, nothing aftermarket. The Tacoma in the configuration I wanted was being delivered soon and had everything I wanted except for the LED's. We negotiated a deal that included $445 for the headlights and they agreed to install them ASAP and assured me they had the parts in stock. I noticed the $40 difference in price from toyota's website, made a comment about it and the salesperson just said that is the price it shows.

Fast forward to today when I go to the dealership for my service appt. to have them installed. Prior to the work, the advisor has me sign the paperwork where I notice it says PIAA LED Bulbs. I told her I'm getting the headlight assembly and she said she can't change what's on the paperwork. Okay, hopefully they get it right. Nope. 10 minutes later she finds me to tell me that the headlight assembly is not authorized and the person who I need to talk to won't be in until Tuesday. I'm frustrated and take off, try to call my salesman who is also not there today.

Admittedly I'm not very savvy about the installation of these. Would there be any reason why the OEM LED's could not be installed on my truck?

I'm going to give it a day before I start to raise hell with the dealership.

The LED headlights use an MX-150 connector. LED equipped trucks have a harness with that connector. Toyota does not make a conversion harness. And the dealership isn’t in the one-off harness crimping business.

See if you can just get the assemblies and $100 credit for your time. Then you can buy a harness, perform the swap, and sell your new halogen takeoffs to compensate your labor on the install.

Probably won’t find much off headlights but here is an awesome shipping deal which usually is a big $$ factor

None yet but soon all black.
I know they sell the harness that works for the 16 and 20 Tacoma‘s but if you have a 2021 Tacoma SR5 with the non led strip in the lights like the trd ones. Does the harness work so you can put the factory led oem headlights on? Or does the truck need to come from the factory trd model thanks
