KDMax-Pro Tuning--NOW YotaWerx Tuning

Oh shit. Forgot about them. I think they rank with other user-made tunes. On an equal, or pretty close, playing field but different strokes for different folks. Though for the record I prefer cookout to whataburger.

The nearest whataburger is 1.5 hours away. Cookout is a multi-day trip. I've doomed myself.

 

TFW you live in Wichita and don't have Whataburger, In n Out, or whatever Cookout is? But hey, we do have Freddy's.

Has anyone else noticed that the tune likes to upshift from 3rd to 4th fairly fast when getting on the highway once you hit about 65 MPH? It's in third for like two seconds and then jumps to 4th then slows down the pace of accelerating quite a bit to get on up from 65 to 75 on the highway.

Thiiird for maybe a second or two.
Foooooouuuurrrrrttttthhhhhhh until I get up to 75 MPH. I assume I"ll just have to get the throttle just right to keep it in 3rd just a bit longer but it's just taking some time. OVTune 19800 beta did exactly this last year before 2.0 released. Of course S mode solves that too, lol.

Additionally, if I floor it and keep the pedal to the metal on the turnpike it'll accelerate as you'd expect but it seems to hit a brick wall after a while and just stop accelerating completely until I take my foot off, then back on again. I'll have to try and get a video of that sometime, it's very strange. But I've only tried it once as I'm typically not WOT if I don't have to be.

That said, I went WOT at about 20 MPH (to pass a car that had been going 20 in a 45 for about a mile of no passing zone) and WOWEE it screamed on up to redline in 1st, hit 7K in 2nd as it should and by the time I got to third I had a big ol smile and had to hit the brakes, haha. That was fantastic.

I let a buddy drive mine yesterday when I went to help rescue him putting his front sway bar back on and he was floored, so expect another KDMax customer shortly. He already has VFTuner and OVTune 2.0 but KDMax is just so much more delightful to drive and he was amazed the 3,500 RPM jump was gone and how even the power band was, that's one of the most impressive things about it to me.

Anyway, super happy with it overall, massive improvement on anything else I've ran previously. Just thought I'd share to see if I'm alone on that or not. Cheers!

 

I would say the only thing superior about cookout is shake options

 

OK I just flashed KDmax SLT regular version and it showed the other VF tuner it was a complete successful flash. These are the three error messages I get on my dash and all my motor does is turn over and it does not fire. Please tell me I haven’t bricked my ECM.

Did you turn the truck off and then try to start it?

 

Thank you. That was not the instructions of the latest the tuner PDF file. I just powered off the truck and restarted it and ignition is good it’s running good now. Thank you all and have a great holiday weekend.

 

Yeah those VFTuner instructions can get cha! Turn it off after tune, works everytime!

 

I was too busy BSing and forgot to do this one time and it freaked out the owner. Whoops.

I just drove the Tacoma for a couple “quick” tests miles and ohhhh what a difference right out of the driveway…I’ll report back after I get some proper miles on the KDmax6.0 Reg SLT tune later in the week. Everyone enjoy the weekend

 

I am pretty sure when the flash completes it prompts a message to turn the vehicle off then start it.

I got my VF software and cable recently, and just plugged it in for the first time to read the truck's info. It completed successfully, however the screen looks a bit different than in the VF .pdf guide (seem to be more options/ buttons on the flash window than shown in pdf images). When completed, it prompted me to save the file, and seems to show 89663-04B80- as my calibration ID, which I gather makes sense for a 2020 AT.

So my question is, if I'm supposed to use Techstream (which I also downloaded and cracked via another helpful thread on here) to update this to 04B81 before flashing KDMax, I wouldn't want to use my VF credits to unlock this particular ID correct, because the ID would change post- flashing the new TSB update... and I would also need to request the files for my specific ID when buying the tune right. Is updating to 04B81 even necessary to properly flash KDMax and have the truck work as well as everyone describes here? Sorry if this isn't the best thread to ask this, I'm just not super clear on appropriate next step.

Appreciate any guidance, just don't want to screw something up.

 

Yes, you need to update to 04b81. This is the most up to date Toyota software for your truck. You need to be on 04b81 before you flash the KDMax tune

 

Got my KDMax tune today from @SubaruTheTacoma great guy and super smooth process. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to get a bit more pop out of their stock truck.

Just completed a trip from Reno to Las Vegas and back. On the return trip I was towing a side by side. I was very impressed with the milage. 20+ pulling a trailer. I had my tune done a little over a month ago by @InternationalHarvester (LT 91Premium).

 

How fast were you going to get that kind of mileage towing ?
