Apparently he’s not aware that Toyota runs in NASCAR from that comment

That engine in the Cup car has nothing to do with any production Toyota. It's a race engine built to NASCR's specs.

But dont you think that may give them, just maybe, a little bit of perspective and experience on how high performance engines may work that they could lend that knowledge to ones built for the masses

You mean where they dumbed down their DOHC engines to go to 1800's technology of OHV?:rofl::rofl:

Toyota has given up. They outsourced the Supra.

Ford (GT) Honda (NSX) Chevy (Corvette) have not. Hell even Kia has the Stinger.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that was exactly the point of TRD?

Toyota has been racing for decades, They know how to make things go fast, but Toyota is super conservative, never will they be on the performance edge, on their street vehicles.

Sigh. Yet the engine specs on the Supra don't line up with the Z4 at all. In fact, car collabs are so common, yet everyone hates on the (fantastic) Supra, I guess because of its iconic flagship status....

The Stinger..... Lol..... A Z71 Silverado is a better performance car. As far as the NSX and Ford GT goes, those are great examples of consumer cars built for high performance. Way over priced, barely sell, maintenance heavy, and net losses for Ford and Honda/Acura. Still, proves that performance can be brought to the masses (Lexus are still king of overdoing it with the LFA, a phenomenal car that costs 4x too much and came out 5 years too late)

Then there's the Corvette.... Truck engine, truck suspension and steering, cheaply made pieces of shit that, dollar for dollar, have the HIGHEST smiles per gallon rating of anything. Ever.

Of course the new C8 is GMs big middle finger to Ferrari, McLaren etc and by jove are they lightning (if they fix the brake failure problem lol)

Truth. But that's part of their tried and true mo, hence the highest reliability/durability across the spectrum. It works (even if the Tundra hasn't had a full refresh in 14 years lol)

No, the specs are dumbed down like I said in a previous post. The nascar spec was made more restrictive every time Chevy lost. In 1965, NASCAR banned the Hemi so that GM could be competitive. They forced chrysler to make at least 500 street engines and gave them less than a year to do it. In 1973, they reduced the displacement to 355 ci because GM had nothing that could compete with the Ford Boss 429 and the Dodge 426 Hemi. Toyota had a 355 ci DOHC engine for nascar that made 70 hp more than the GM unit. Of course, they were forced to dumb it down to OHV. So no NASCAR is not a good way to get engine technology. And it certainly isn't a good way to learn about auto handling, because in the real world cars turn in both directions.

Not every Nascar race is an oval or a brickyard. Check out some of the Sprint Cup series.

Lol. Porches have like, 3 inches of ground clearance. Not good for snow. Phenomenal for technical tarmac

I guess it's because it's a BMW, built by BMW, in Austria.

"Yes, the 2020 Toyota Supra is built from BMW parts in the same Austrian factory as the BMW Z4."
    https://www.motortrend.com/cars/toyota/supra/2020/2020-toyota-supra-pros-and-cons-review/

If wanted a BMW heap, I'd buy a BMW.

    It's Toyota, giving up.

    Agreed.

TRD no longer holds any value as far as performance - stickers, red trim and a red oil cap.....maybe a fancy lookin' exhaust but thats about it.

IMO Toyota had a golden opportunity with Supra and blew it.

My 2001 tundra was good also. Imo, it seemed awful prone to paint chips. It had a very thick paint job from the primer to the clear coat. The tacoma is much thiner. can't complain on the fit and finish of either...both were/are very good. I'd rate the tundra's ride much plusher, but the tacoma performs much better off-road, and in the winter snow. Its 4wd system actuates far slicker than the tundra ever did. Gotta give the taco a 9.5 and the tundra a 9.

They definitely blew it, but the TRD Camry is pretty slick. And of course all the various TRD trims for the trucks, and 4Runner at Sequoia etc do really well. And now they've got a TRD sienna coming out so...

  It's the internet so I hope I'm just missing your sarcasm here...

I have a 2016 that has required two non-scheduled major repairs. First, there was a front cover oil leak, which ended up requiring the complete disassembly of the top of the motor down to the heads (valve covers off), so they replaced ALL of those seals. If warranty hadn’t of covered it, $3k’ish repair. Second, the high pressure fuel pump started to fail (I recognized the sound and took it in before failure), and that was a $2.5k’ish repair. Now, at 60k miles, maintenance wise, I’ve just had to replace the front brakes for the first time, and some of the ball joints are starting to pop a bit (I have wider wheels with more offset, so I’m stressing those joints more). I can’t really comment on long-term reliability, but my understanding is that the two non-scheduled repairs to my truck are common issues with early year 3rd gens, and the parts used to replace are newer and slightly better design. I’m not really concerned with those issues coming back up in the near future, so hopefully it’s smoother sailing, because I plan to keep it until LA county won’t let me drive internal combustion engines any longer lol.

If it's bad enough the highways aren't clear then everything is closed. You do realize that. Do u actually live in Denver or just a kid playing on the net. You do realize that there are tons of people driving rwd cars in Denver right and they do so all year round. They run a set of blizzaks and they can get around almost all winter. And the days they can't are typically bad enough that everything is shut down.

But if you want me to prove it to you, meet me at Stevinson's Porsche and we can ask them how many drive their 911's in the winter. Notice I said how many and not if they drive in winter. I already know the answer.

I work DoT, mate. Been driving plows for nearly a decade lol. We're all going to see some stuff, but if there's more than three or four inches on the ground, the Porsches and the Audis usually stay home. Just my experience
