Looks like not a lot of weight and little drag. That mileage looks plausible.

I'm sure it was , just wondering what speeds. I can get close to 20 empty below 70. After that it starts dropping some

Try cleaning your serpentine belt it, might just be dirty.
If that doesn't help start with replacing your serpentine.
Belts only 50 bucks and most likely the culprit.

*Edit, because I'm dumb and proofread after I post.

65 majority of the way. There’s a lot of small towns to go through where the speed limit drops to as low as 25. The milage was good, but the best part was that I didn’t have to be in S4. I drove with cruise on and in regular drive. Anytime I’ve towed before I always kept it in S4. The truck did kick down a few times. But, it kept 5th a lot longer and every once in awhile would shift into 6th.

Yeah, the Rhinos not very heavy, maybe 800 lbs, and the trailers 500. Only 1300 lbs or so. Not much in the truck either, just some baggage and an ice chest. 65 was my max speed though. I never pushed it up to 70. And there’s a lot of towns where the speed limit is only 25 for several miles.

Is there anyone in the Indianapolis area that could tune?

Thanks for the reply. I have no idea what's up with my truck but again yesterday I tried to use regular cruise control. I set it at 68 and driving on flat Florida highway. Hit a very gradual over pass and dropped to 4th and stayed there. I let it go for about a minute and even going downhill it will not go back to 5th or 6th. That's with an empty truck and 267/70 17 ridge grapplers

I’ve seen a few people with issues improving their milage. Full disclosure, I have a cold air intake and swapped my factory coils to Ripp ignition coils. I don’t know that they make any difference. https://rippmods.com/products/toyota-tacoma-3-5l-v6-coil-packs

I’m not sure about the gear hunting, my truck did that a little before the tune. Maybe some guys here have an idea? Maybe a different tune? I understand there’s a gear lock option you can ask for on the tune. Not sure how it works? Guessing you use S and you can just select a gear and the truck will hold it without upshifting or downshifting.

I’m not trying to rip on anyone but I find it interesting/amusing that some people getting a performance tune, are concerned about gas mileageo_O or expect better than stock. I know some report better gas mileage but in my mind that’s just icing on the cake:thumbsup:

While I do agree with you. I wouldn’t consider this tune to be a performance tune. It seems to add a better throttle response and the shift points are different. In my case, there’s near instant throttle response and my truck stays in 6th gear for much longer before downshifting on inclines. And the majority of the time it only shifts down into 5th. Before it would rarely use 6th and almost always stayed in 4th. I think the milage increase comes from being able to maintain the low RPMs. We all drive different and our trucks are modified in different ways. That must also play a part in the “performance” of this tune.

I will state mine hasn't really changed at all from stock, to OVTune beta and 2.0 to KDMax. It's always about 16-17 no matter what, and I'm a stock truck too. I have no idea how people are getting 20's. I can get 20 with no wind and not going uphill with no lights, but that's about it, lol. Perhaps I just like the skinny pedal?

I will say it has improved on long stretches of highway though because it's not killing it at 3,500 RPM the whole darn time. Rather it'll hold 5th more often and that does in fact have a noticeable difference. Instead of 18 I can hit 20 in some cases. Though I70 at 80MPH with Kansas wind and no blocking it is 13-14 regardless. Sure is a much more fun 16-17 than stock though!

Future edit: Knocked it out of the park going to and from Eureka from El Dorado KS.

    31BC203E-EEF0-44E9-9A43-1C04776534D3.jpg

This trip in particular goes through some of the Flint Hills and has some grades that 100% will use 4th in Cruise on OVTune but maintained 5th on all but the largest hill this time around. Made it much quieter and got about 2MPG more than usual. So it is possible! (When cruising and not using the pedal so much - to see an increase).

It should not be hanging in 4th after the tune. If it continues, you may need a reset LV and AT. Sometimes it takes a reset to start the learning over.
Even if you do not get a reset, it should improve over time. Mine did hang in 4th every once in a while in the beginning, but never does anymore (after a few months on the tune).

I’ll give it a few weeks. This is the tune Vic did last week. The 1st to 2nd gear is working much much better now too. It would stay in 4th forever until I either tap the pedal or turn cruise off

For a chain burger, I agree. There are some craft burger shops that are pretty damn good. However, they lack the all-important drive through.
