Don't worry about it... we feel bad that you 3rd Gen guys have to buy an expensive tune to get the same perfomance we get with our "dated" trucks. :D

I felt like a creeper driving behind a taco but it was a nice one and I wanted pictures of the area.. sadly I wasn't in mine. Anyone know if it's on here? I saw the meso tails when he signaled and figured he might be. Red third gen, mid bed rack, rtt, meso tails. Yes. I know there's quite a few of them..

    not enough.
I mean, given the number of tacoma's in the state...and the relative few people that are active on this thread...i'd be surprised if he/she were on this thread.

I can let you test a few tunes. If you want to keep one you can reach out to the creators and get the files. You have vF correct? I have access to several different tunes. I can flash and send you for a test drive.

I have most of the latest tunes (MD latest public, KDMax6.0,powerthirst and Valleytuner) Just was hoping to collect opinions on how they like em for this area or if one was favored etc.

Also, do you guys have recommendations on cheap shop to get a serpentine belt changed? My truck is squealing bad now and I think it might be the belt..

Last shop that changed it on my old car changed me near $400 lol.

Was just doing a search on replacing front leaf spring mounts for my truck and stumbled on this post. Curious as to why the front mounts require a new frame? Aren’t they just riveted in like the rear? I found Toyota part numbers for the front ones.

Someone came across 4 lanes and a median and tagged me right in front of the driver rear. Repair shop just called and said the leaf spring mount was bent (didn’t specify front or rear) and they were going to try to pull it and straighten it out... Said it’d be a frame replacement if they couldn’t (which lead me to believe it was the front) and that’d put me over the complete loss threshold.

Just wondered why if it’s possible to grind off the rear mounts for BAMF/Hammer Hangers, why do the fronts require a new frame?

    Appreciate it!

You should have your frame checked if it twisted/busted your front leaf hangars. Possible bent frame. Looks like you took it right in da sweet meat!!

Looks like you’ve got your tune sampler covered. Maybe add CVC and then you've got them all to test.

I’m no help in the belt.

Well first, this may only apply to 2nd gen Tacos as that is my only experience. The front mounts are HEFTY compared to the rear. I've only repaired trucks with rear mounts damaged. So yes, both front and rear mounts are riveted to the frame. If the rear mount is damaged, it's highly likely the frame has damage too... and the rears are WEAK compared to the fronts.

If the fronts are damaged I would suspect frame damage too.

That doesn't mean your truck couldn't be repaired fairly easily, but it all depends on if or how the frame is damaged, and the skills of the person doing the repair. I am relatively unskilled and my trucks have gone many miles and over all kinds of ground and they drive just fine. To me the true test is whether the tires wear normally, and mine do.

But I've never repaired the front mount and I've never seen a front mount damaged without the frame being too damaged for me to repair.

A lot of people freak out about frame damage... and some damage is freak-out-able. But people splice frames all the time. Lots of vintage hot rods and muscle cars are sporting front frames and suspensions from Mustang IIs and S-10s scabbed to their original rear frame.

There are places on the web that sell frame sections for Tacos.

One other thing... your insurance company is unlikely to pay you as much for your truck as it is now worth. I'd suggest you look carefully at the damage and consider. The last truck I resurrected cost me 10K and bluebooks for about 25K. It cost me less than a grand for the parts I needed and took me three days to repair it in my driveway. I could have done it quicker and cheaper.

Appreciate the reply brother! I’m hoping the mount is the only frame damage, but not holding my breath. Started looking for 2015 4wd Off-Roads or Sports with less than 80k and they are all going for stupid money right now... Like 28k-32k stupid!

Interested to see what the shop and insurance says. Trying to do my research now to see what it would take to get back on the road if they total it and I decide to buy it back as salvage. I bought the truck new after someone turned out in front of my 2002 Tacoma and totaled it. Since then, I’ve invested a lot of time and money into it... Not quite ready to write her off yet!
