    Just did this -

Wire brush, some gloves and steel wool to get ride of the surface rust
Simple green to clean/degrease the area
applied some good black flat rustoleum (or paint as others have mentioned)
then sprayed the whole frame with multiple coats of CRC Corrosion inhibitor.

Looks brand new, my paranoia is gone.....or just covered in paint, not sure.

Found out today the Toyota-branded Dexron III has been superseded by Mobil ATF D/M. Bought two 1L bottles today at the parts counter. Dealer SKU is C0PBS-ATFD3-1L. Still cheaper at the dealer ($7.65) than at Canadian Tire ($13). One bottle for power steering flush in the Subaru, and another bottle as a trail spare in the truck.

I did a touch up on my frame last fall where needed. Wire wheel and brush. Degreased and washed. Brushed on Metal Prep, brushed on POR-15, sprayed black Rust Check, then sprayed Fluid Film on the whole thing.
I would add safety goggles and a dust mask to the PPE.

Oh yeah, def PPE. Spraying that CRC smells like death and suffocated your pretty quickly when you're under your vehicle haha.

Good thing we all have an endless supply of masks

When I did the rear diff 3 years ago it looks like I used 75W90

So I will upgrade and do 75W140 tonight.

Wire brush/ brillo pad/wire wheel to get off any loose scale.
    Spray with brake cleaner.
Tremclad or Rustoleum semi-gloss black with a paintbrush (spray can for areas not easily reached)
    Let dry a week.
Spray with ATF or red-rust check, or the best ACF-50 (lubricates and neutralizes rust in nooks an cranny's)
    Wait 2-3 days
Spray with Corrosion Free, or the best ones Corrosion-X HD or Cosmoiline RP-342 (you can get it in black)

If you use Corrosion-x HD or RP 342, wear a face shield and hat. Soap and water will NOT take that stuff off, only naptha/varsol/mineral spirits will take it off.

I've got all the spray guns and compressor if you need them.

After you've cleaned off the rust you can also put Navel Gel (phosphoric acid) on the rusted areas, and it will totally neutralize the rust and turn it black, then wash off with soap and water, but I've found that the tremclad/rustoleum seems to hold up real well all on it's own. But you don't want that stuff dripping on you when you are working underneath something.

    Thanks for the insight everyone,

thankfully i have a a bottle of Varsol and Gasoline for clean ups. my hands are permanently damaged by the stuff from years of use so it's just another day :cookiemonster:. installed glue-down Engineered hardwood, vinyl, and carpet with some nasty adhesives for a living so i'm familiar with the cleaning methods to remove shit from at least my hands, good times...

Lol Cosmoline is not something that will really clean off your skin/hair.
It will soak in ,and then when you use the thinner to try and clean it off it will soak in more.
So for a week or two afterwards you will have a greasy/waxy feel.
It'll only come out of your hair when you cut it out.

You can coat something with it and hit it with a concentrated soap power washer and it does not come off.

Oh a tip if you want to keep your underside easier to clean the mud off, of after being off-road...
Spray either Silicone spray or Mold Release spray all over your underside.

    Got a bunch done tonight.

Rear diff drained and refilled with Lucas 75W140

T-case breather, switched over to the barb and attached to the stock breather tube, thanks @TjAeCeOpMAmiah

We decided on the location and mounted the toggle switches, could only get blurry pics of them for now  They will get hooked up and working soon enough.

    :bananadance:

Tomorrow hopefully I will get all the skids back from powder coat, put em back on before Friday. Then actually get out and use the truck this weekend!

1st time for wheeling with the new t-case, can not wait. :burnrubber:

Yes if you look how we mounted them, it is to the plastic part above that was hiding the 4WD ECU.

The glove box is still removable just like normal, for filter replacement.

What you're saying is you need a scissor lift in the driveway, so you can work on the frame while sitting in a chair, with no lift arms in the way?

Something. Either that or get in shape so I can endure the constant up and down, and sit-up holds while grinding. Hoist may be easier in the long run :p.

Hmm... Quonset with window walls or SeaCan home? At the very least I have somewhere to go camping this summer ! :woot:
