Thinking of "Bad Ass" Bed light. Kinda

Hey guys... so i got some money to put towards modding my tacoma for christmas, and i had planned on doing a grill craft with hella 500 HID Modd's behind it, but my parents were fine with me doing it till they saw that i have to saw out the bars. Then they said no. So Now i'm trying to think of something else thats under 400 bucks

As, I don't do too much off roading and my headlights are fine for any offroading I actually do, if i were to even do it at night, I dodn't have any need for the hella 500's to use as driving lights. I was planning on mostly using them to light up my driveway / field for dirt biking and such at night.

So now I'm thinking of getting a bunch of hella 500's or anohter kinda light and making my own brackets so I can put them on my bed rails ( The little track things the cleets go into )

Any way, I'm wondering what you guys think?

Is that a good under 400 dollar modd? Oh, and I can do any instillation myself, that's actually my favorite part. I'm doing it mostly for the fun of the install

 

What about an NFab light bar up front with lights?

 

Gave that a real good thought, and I really want to be a car designer and look is extremely important to me, so like, I think the NFab light bars are just too much junk on the front.

Id do that if i could get Hella 4000 Xenon lights ( The small ones with the red rings ) cuz that would look neat, but i can't afford those soo.....

 

Check out the LED off road light thread in the lighting section. There are some 4" leds that can fit in the area by you're license plate and will light up any back country roads you can think of.

 

look into the demello light bar, its like 120 i think and theres three light tabs welded to it, your thread said bed lights but the posts seem to talk about front lights sooo idk haha

 

Tell your parents that if you screw up cutting the plastic, a new grill piece is what... $35?

 

grills from partsgeek are only like $40.

if youre still wanting driving lights with a modest light bar, i'd highly reccomend the crossfab ones. i had them custom make this one (cause their normal ones were too busy for me) for no extra charge:



give it some thought...bed lights are cool, but someone recently did some using lights from walmart for like $30 that came out really good. how much use are you gonna see out of your bed lights? enough to drop cash on some hellas? plus, i definitely wouldnt recommend a driving light to be used as a bed light...they have a long, narrow beam and arent made to diffuse and light up a wide area.

Or even just order the extra grille for the truck, and do your mod on that. If it comes out looking good, and your parents okay it. Then do it.

and autozone has those same rectangle lights for 20 bucks, you get two lights, enough wiring to run to the cab, as well as a switch, and they are bright as shit, username sabre can vouch for that

haha alright im sure they are the same thing im thinkin of picking them up and tinting them amber right now me and a few buddies are fabbing up a bed bar and hopefully afterwards get those lights wired up

this is what i did, did my mod on a cheap grill and kept my oem as a backup (might sell it, not sure).

if your budget is $400, get down on the satoshi buy. only problem is, you wont be able to do much modding yourself...

how are you planning on tinting them? can you get to the bulbs without prying the light apart? or are you just putting a cover on the outside?

well my buddy told me you can use an amber colored film, not sure yet cuz i havent really looked into it
