I am looking for a roof rack to carry either a pair of bikes, 2 kayaks or a ski box. The OEM bar spread is too far apart for the ski box so that option is out. I don't need something as heavy duty as a Prinsu with multiple bars etc (even though I think it looks great). I am not a fan of the Thule/Yakima setups that clamp under the doors. Are there any other options that would mount to the factory mounting points and have 2 bars with a spread that would accommodate all my needs? Thanks in advance.

I don't have an answer to the specific question you asked about a pair of bikes, 2 kayaks or a ski box, unfortunately. But I have collected a pretty reasonable list of the best roof racks out there. Perhaps this will help in your research? I completely understand your point about the Thule / Yakima systems that use the door frames.

But for the bikes I would recommend a tailgate cover pad. I have one and really like it. Is there are reason why they must go on the roof? Is the bed being used for other things?

    Hope this list helps:

averagejp - Thank you for the wealth of information! You question of why the bikes have to go on top. I forgot to mention that the bikes need to go on top when I am towing as my gear is in the bed under a Undercover tonneau cover. Thanks again for the all the links. I will take some time to check them all out.

Depending on how handy (cheap) you are, the Sherpa company that @averagejp provided a link for also sells individual components. So you could buy a set of mounting feet and then make your own crossbars out of aluminum extrusion, or any other rigid enough material really.

The one thing I really like about that Sherpa rack is how they mount it. Worth watching the install video. They have a nice system to mount the rack to the truck.

I got it. Might be worth looking at how best to carry the bikes as separate from the other items. A lot of folks here get bed bars that ride on top of their tonneau and that might be a good option for carrying your bikes. Worth looking through here to see some ideas before you settle on carrying the bike on the roof. Lots of solutions that might work as well and give you other options.

Not sure about bikes, or skis. But for my kayaks I love my Martin offroad roof rack. Basically the same as a prinsu at a cheaper price point. 20200725_061857.jpg

Hey 304, how long have you had the Martin? How's it holding up? Thanks!

I have the prinsu wish i had bought the sherpa. Their aluminum siding is thicker and deforms way less. Either way highly recommend purchasing from truck brigade. Super fast shipping and very reliable. Good luck

+1 for the Gobi. But it’s a tank, and expensive.

I ordered the Gobi for my 4Runner, but don't care for the design on the Taco. It doesn't go all the way back, something that is probably key for the OP use of kayaks.
Ended up with Prinsu and I'm satisfied with it.

I used arb part number 3723010 as a roof bracket(it mounts to the factory 4 door holes) then mounted a platform I made myself to it. A couple aerobars bolted (ubolts) to it could work well.

I've had it 2 years now. Seems to be holding up great. The crossbars have some expected scratches from the kayaks, but thats it.
