So no shit there I was - driving along and some jack wagon pulled out in front of me which forced me to brake pretty hard - my service dog which was in the back seat came flying forward and knocked my shifter into park - I lost throttle power and decided to coast it over to the shoulder of the road. I came to a stop - turned off the truck nd turned it back on - everything seems fine.

I immediately started searching TW - and found another hapless victim of a similar circumstance - hahaha.

I did the ghost clutch the very first time I drove an automatic. All of our vehicles were manual, but my grandmother brought her auto Volvo over to have my Dad look at something on it. After we got done, he said that I needed to drive an automatic, so we got in. I backed out OK, reminding myself that it's an automatic, put it into drive alright, too. It was when it wound up, and my mind said it was time to shift to second that I clipped the wide brake pedal, and just about put both of us through the windshield! We flopped back into our seats, and my Dad just looks at me and deadpan says, "Forgot it was automatic, didn't you?" I just looked at him and said, "Yep!"

I may know someone who had a manual transmission tacoma for 10 years and got an automatic last year and just did this today "shifting from second to third"
Quickly pulled over and stopped. It made that humm noise under the shifter.
Usually I just look for a clutch when I'm starting the truck.

    still alive?

I switch between my automatic S10 ZR2 and my manual Tacoma 9 months of the year. Ghost clutch is real.
