Here is how it all went down. We knew we wanted a TRD Sport 4x4 and had speced it all out with the buying program. We were connected, by Costco, to a dealer nearest us but they had nothing in our specs. So, living in the Phoenix area we knew there were others. We put in other zip codes and basically built a list of local dealers in the program. When you do this they reach out to you, so it’s easy. One had one coming in but it had the advanced technology package and we didn’t want that. They said they would not charge us for the upgrade to the advanced.

As we waited for it to arrive, we kept a watch on the other dealers in our list and found one got one in in the color we wanted but again had advanced tech. I spoke to them and told them I was working with someone on a truck coming in but didn’t say who. Basically they said they would do the same and not charge me. I also told them I didn’t want to pay for the Predator steps and they could take them off as well as dealer add ons. I also negotiated on some of the add ons like bed lights and chrome tip pointing out that Costco offered me a discount if I bought them so they should. When it was all done we saved 14% off sticker including the $1000 off they were doing. Specs below.

that sounds about right. The Price Simms dealerships in the Bay Area (I got mine in Walnut Creek) don’t market up. (My pro was 1$ under msrp; the OR was going to be like 1000 or something under msrp when I originally had a deposit).

honestly - I’m not sure what happened; it kind of fell in my lap. I put a deposit down on a white OR in early March with a 2-ish month wait - but also asked to be put on the waiting list for a Pro (there were a lot of people on that list for both Tacoma’s and 4runners). But I called the sales guy every week to check on updates (mainly to see how allocations changed or updated - which for reference really only happens twice a month). About 2 weeks before estimated OR delivery he told me if I waited an additional two weeks, I could have one of the two Pros coming in with the next allocation. Pure luck; I think the others in the list didn’t want LR or simply had a change of heart?!?

I think what the last several posts prove is that you do not have to be at the mercy of dealer markups even TODAY if you are willing to work for your deal.

Window sticker was $45680.00 prior to dealer add ons which were another $1855 getting total sticker price to $46,535. Now the final fees to get out the door. Doc fee $498, Taxes $3862.41 and plates $677.58. Grand total of $51,572.99 out the door MSRP.

I paid $44,000 out the door.

2021 OR, loaded. I paid $2000 under msrp in Elk Grove. salesman called it "matching the costco deal". But I never mentioned costco.
Every dealer in Bay Area I called was well over MSRP.
I just kept emailing dealers within 150 miles until one said they could get me what I wanted for a fair price. They can look up what's coming in the next 30 days. I reserved one, waited two weeks and they honored the deal. My buddy got the 21 Sport there too. Same deal I got.
Someone at dealer just told me they understand Toyota is very close to catching up with truck shortage. So maybe hold off for a couple of months and save several grand for mods.

That’s what I’m thinking I was watching a video saying Toyota is holding stock and once the 22s release they’ll flood with 21s you’re right bro!

Ask for Pete Johnson, Elk Grove Toyota. He hooked me up. Then my buddy was getting screwed at another dealer. I called Pete. He tracked down the exact truck, long bed, my friend wanted and gave him same deal as me.
I basically got everything on mine. Bought both trucks before xmas.
We both did everything on email and phone. Only drove there once to pay and leave.

And zero change expected on 22’. Save the money. Wait 60 days.
He also said something about computer chip shortage. They probably have 10,000 tacos sitting on a ship waiting to put in a chip.

    It's a secret
Something to also consider is if you're a first time buyer at Totoya-[Dealership Name]. Majority of the time an easy way to get a price at/or below MSRP is if you have an established rapport with a salesperson/dealership. Generally, a repeat customer will have a better chance at receiving a fair or good deal on their Toyota/Lexus from the same dealership and/or salesperson; sometimes even being referred to one can also be advantageous.

Mine was a little over by the time taxes and title were added in along with undercoating.
MSRP was 37,357 and everything out the door was 37,931. This was an outright purchase so no financing.
SR5 Double cab 4x4 with 6 foot bed, Auto trans.
Door sill protectors with all weather mats
    Mud flaps
    Step bar
    Bed mat
    No trade in.

Just bought this (my first Tacoma ever!). It's perfectly spec'd for me with the mats and keyless entry but could have omitted the $90 exhaust tip. I had to call in a deposit and drive up from out of state to get it as we don't really get these in Gulf States Toyota land (we usually only get 2WD SRs and the 4WDs are all Utility Packages). So I was expecting to pay MSRP given the current market and since they knew I really wanted it -- but there was a $500 rebate so that helped a little.

I showed up and there was no fighting about pinstripes or nitrogen, and the doc fee was $199. I put $3k down and financed it for 5 years with BofA at 2% so the payment will be $485.

    Love it so far!
