Does anyone have any experience with a bent frame from the factory hitch after being rear ended in an accident. I think I have the classic description of what typically happens and was wondering if you guys have documented info from Toyota or ???? that dictates if the frame is to be replaced or repaired. Especially to not void warranties because they still apply. Also, any other suggestions on fixes to the frame etc. As you can see, the bed has cracks in it too. Welcome to TW... not sure exactly what your question is, but a truck that new should have full coverage insurance on it,let them take care of it.

A proper repair is up to the shop doing the work, with the burden on the other partys insurance to fund proper repairs, whatever that may be.

If proper repairs exceed a certain % of the value of the vehicle it will be totalled.

None of this has anything to do with any future warranty work, should the truck be repaired. As long as the repairs are properly done.

For this reason, in this case, having a Toyota dealer do the repairs would be in your best interest.

This same exact thing just happened to me. What ended up happening with this? Another guy hit me pretty hard, just wondering if I need to mentally prep. I like my truck more than I probably should...

I got rear ended yesterday and my damage looks identical to yours. What ended up happening when you took it to a shop?

Sorry to hear that happened! With the frame bent like that it was deemed a total loss. It was frustrating because I only had my truck for two months and loved it. In the end my insurance wrote me a check for $3k more than what I paid for it. If yours is totaled make sure you include every single thing that was added aftermarket, that way you are getting the maximum amount of a payout.

The whole thing turned out to be not so bad because I then got a 4 door short bed which is better for my situation with two dogs that can ride in the back. Let me know if you have any other questions!

So mines is brand new as well (1000miles new).. off-road DCSB. Honestly hope they don’t total it cause even with GAP I think I lose my downpayment not sure how that works. But if My insurance is willing to put up 42k+ Fairly quickly than that wouldn’t be too bad I guess.

    thnks for replying instant

6 months later... this happened to me in July. the insurance didn't want to declare it a total loss and wanted to replace the frame. The frame was over three months out and I have a feeling it would be even longer. My truck would still be in the shop if I didn't take things up a notch.

It took months of me fighting with them to get them to total it and when I finally got the money I got the last taco in the specs I wanted in a 500 mile radius. And i had to pay a 3-4000 dollar dealer markup fee.

It was a complete nightmare. I'm so sorry OP.

No problem, I know how it is looking for info and wanting to hear about a similar situation...Unfortunately I lost my down payment which sucked but nothing I could do about it. My frame was bent so much that it pushed up and cracked the material of the bed shell. The shop I took it to couldn't believe that I wasn't hurt. The damages plus the fact that the new frame was going to take 2+ months to be shipped here was why my insurance company eventually deemed it a total loss. They probably did not want to pay for a rental for that long as the driver at fault did not have enough coverage for all 3 vehicles that were involved. Hopefully there was a a police report filed in your case. Make sure your insurance gets all the information from you and the other driver, as well as any pictures of the dame you took. I hope it ends well!

Man my truck damage looks identical, I really don’t want it to be a total loss because the car market is so ridiculous right now…
