Castrol GTX is the only oil I will put in my Tacoma's. My first Tacoma back in 1992 was a
4 cylinder that was owned by a guy who pulled a boat. Engine felt ragged out. I tried every
oil and not one of them made a difference in how the truck ran until I tried Castrol GTX. Boy
did it make a difference in my 1st Tacoma. Every since then that is all I will buy for my Tacoma's.

Napa Preim 5w30 is on sale here. $15.90 OTD for 5 quaats with the discount. I'm about 750 over on the Pennzoil,,need to put together some time this weekend. Running ragged,,so are the wheels. All I have ever used is Pennzoil or Napa Premium(valv). There really close on this truck. Lucky to have analytical lab services close by and pretty cheap. Not making any heavy metal yet,,per say. Just clicked 230K 2 days ago.

Does AMSOIL meet the API oil spec requirement from the manual?

Kirkland makes a decent oil. Project Farm does a really good experiment with different brands of oil.

I trust the API to provide oversight on the motor oil I purchase. Mobil 1 for my light four wheeled vehicles, Rotella for the tractors, and Castrol 4T for the motorcycles. As for Amsoil, I dislike ANY multilevel marketing organization.

Kirkland is made by Warren....same folks that produce SuperTech, Amazon Basics, Harvest King, Meijer and others.

Excellent product and a great value

Semi-hilarious that the OP popped into TW, asked one oil question, and then disappeared into the matrix, never to be heard from again.

In a thousand miles I’ll be changing the oil on my ‘15, with 5w30 Mobil 1 synthetic, an OEM filter, and a new crush washer for the drain plug.

I have looked and looked to find the best oil out there but I have come to the conclusion that most name brand same class oil will be just fine for these trucks. I have also learned to not buy fram filters anymore after I've seen a few opened up and they had rust on the inside along with really low quality components. WIX XP, NAPA Gold, or the OEM filter is what I use. The Yota filters are cheap in bulk.

I usually stick with Mobil 1 synthetic and I'll buy a 6 pack of Amazon basics 530 synthetic for $24. Since the truck takes 5.5 quarts, I'll use a 5 quart jug of Mobil 1 and half quart of amazon. Cheaper than buying 2 jugs of Mobil 1 or the 1 quart which is usually $8+. That and those OEM filters every 3000 miles. I suppose I could buy 2 5 quart jugs and keep using the second one for another 10 changes. I would usually end up using it for my little 4 banger Scion anyway though.

Personally I use the Toyota OEM filter with Costco/Kirkland 5W-30. I've spent way, way too much time reading into oil add packs, change intervals and other stuff lol. I do think I'll end up running 10W-30 once the motor hits 200k, but that's a ways off being that I'm at 110k now.

Blackstone told me that most syn oils nowadays are pretty similar and it's more important to regularly change your oil than it is to worry about which oil you use. I used to run RP HM in my truck but have since just went with the Kirkland stuff since it's a decent amount cheaper and is of pretty good quality.

...^^^... Ditto ... I use a brand name synthetic and change it at first oil change at 2,000 miles ... then 5,000 miles ... then every 3,000 to 5,000 after that ... or depending on the time in the engine now ... since I drive less now (about 1,000 a month).

I really love Castrol Edge full synthetic 10/30 (even though it asks for 5/30) and up until this week I ran a WIX filter but now that they’re being made in China I’m either going to go with OEM or Purolator
