Im not 100% yet. Mainly the weight savings and honestly just to see what they handle like in real life rather than from biased truck forum users lol.

My 235/80r17’s are actually fantastic. They are only an inch smaller than the 255’s and ride so much better than the 265/70r17’s I had. I drive 300 miles a day doing parts delivery for Toyota. In the last 2 days I’ve put over 600 miles on the new tires.
Tread width has very little to do with “floating”. That’s going to be dictated by how much you air down your tire. The longer the contact patch the better traction you are going to have and taller skinny tires do a much better job of creating a long contact patch. Ever wonder why no tanks use massive wide tracks? Because width isn’t that important. The only time width really matters is in very loose sand or mud BOGS.

I did some mall crawling today and went down a muddy dirt road. The tires I had on last week struggled on the same muddy road. The new tires? Felt like I was driving down a dirt road.

Lol. I get it! I’m the same. I’m probably gonna go with 285s just because I like how they look and want to see how it drives. Then switch to either a 255 or 265 if I don’t like them.

Hey everyone. I'm basically new here. I have 2015 TRD off-road and looking for new tires. Have never changed my orginal Rugged Trail 265/70R16's. I like the skinny tire look and I drive a lot of highway miles.
What are the range of sizes I can SAFELY put on my original TRD rims? Thanks in advance

Swapped out 2021 stock 265/70R16s on OR wheels for WildPeaks 255/80R17s on SEMA wheels. Nice tires -- low noise and smooth on H/W

I have a 3/2 lift. And no rubbing on any street driving. I even have a steep driveway to an underground parking garage. I don't see much difference in width from the 265s, but the SEMA wheels pushed the tires out the right amount. 275s on these rims would have worked - but the 255s added an extra inch and saved a few pounds in weight.

TRD Pro Tacoma wheels are 16x7, also still work great with skinnies.
