I mean, if youre going to run an overland vehicle rental business you have to expect this and not be mad about it.

I can understand this. I just couldn't treat a vehicle this way if it was not mine.

I don’t treat my vehicle that badly and y’all saw the video of what I put mine through. You have to know what you’re driving and respect the limits

Isn't this why you "rent" a vehicle? You know, so you don't run yours.

Definitely a wide range of interesting responses to this blown shock. Appreciate everyone's input as it gives me a great baseline as to how we all may think, and how I may address future issues. Thank you.

First off, not mad. At all. In fact, Tim (the customer) and I have camped together before, he is by far my biggest supporter, and the follow-up interaction to the damage was as pleasant as it could possibly be (as it has been for every instance of excess damage (3 in total), apart from one). Things happen. The only thing I care about is getting it rectified. Tim's already paid me for the damages, the truck gets brand new rear shocks, and an alignment, and a thorough undercarriage cleaning, for zero dollars out of my own pocket. Out of the ~$35,000 this business has made me thus far, ~$2,000 of the bookings involved excess damage, all of which I came out on top with either new parts or a cleaner, fresher vehicle.

I own lots of things that people rent from me, and have been doing so for years, so I long ago learned to separate myself from these things. It's part of the deal. Never has owning something, that I share with someone else in exchange for money, ever done anything other than make me wealthier.

I will go out on a limb though, and say this: If any of you would purposefully treat a vehicle like this because "Hey, it's a rental!", PM me your name and email so I can add you to my blocked customer list. Because that type of mentality is literal garbage.

Surprised to still see you posting with us normal folk, as I heard your video has over 6 million views, and I have seen it blasted on at least 30 different overlanding and offroading Instagrams in the past couple of days! Don't forget about the little guys like Will and I when you make it big! Haha

#neverforget haha. It’s been an entertaining few days to say the least. All I wanted was a good video to see how the truck was performing and suspension going to work. So ya, I’m grateful of the positive response from the off road community.

Plus I’ve been getting a big laugh out of the people asking how it was filmed. “Gotta be a gimble, GoPro 9 with stabilization, drone, ...” Nah, my buddy kept pace with me on the main forest service road (relatively smooth) while his 60+ year old mother held my iPhone out the window.

I sincerely apologize if my comment had offended you or hit a nerve but, that was not my intent. Not me personally, but many "renters" have that mentality. I completely support what you're doing and have been considering giving you a call. And yeah, things happen and you want things taken care of. I agree 100% that the mentality of treating anything like a "rental" because it isn't yours is more than just garbage.

I appreciate that TJ! No offense taken. I hope we get to meet one day, as I like making new friends and you'll see that I am extremely laid back. "He who cares less, wins" is one of my personal mottos.

If you got salty with my comment... Sorry, but that's why I said it. Because there are people out there that don't care.. and if you're renting and advertising it as an off-road, upgraded, capable truck.. well then.. You asked for it imo.. and people are going to take advantage of it. I commend you for doing this rental thing.. because I would never.. and I just don't understand why anybody would take that risk. But again.. to each their own.

... and everybody stop lying... We've all seen Days Of Thunder.. lol

I prefer old top gear when Clarkson brings the “fastest car in the world” to a challenging race. Think it was a rental Corolla or something. But he definitely had to stop at the rental place along the way for completely destroying the car...because it’s a rental. Personally I’ve tried to check if a few rentals have had speed limiters a few times. But that’s about it. And they usually didn’t.
