[IMG]Started yesterday to fabricate a rear bumper to replace the chrome bumper on my SR5. Material used - 10x8x3/8 and 10x4x3/8. Its going to have 2 recovery shackles. Ideas on what to paint it with. Either Rustoleum Bed Liner or Rustoleum High Heat Flat Black.

Rustoleum bed liner is good stuff! its what i use on my bumpers and sliders, its like a fine sand paper and seems to be pretty tough

If your bumper is going to get 'tested' often and need touching up - go with the regular Rustoleum Flat Black spray paint. You don't need the high heat version. The bedliner, as is with powercoating, is a bit more difficult to prep and add coats to properly.

If you want a tough flat black, use the John Deere Blitz Black. I have painted custom motorcycles and numerous other things with it. It is tough as nails. While wiring ape hangers on a bike I dropped several things on the tank and never scratched the paint. It's about 7-10 dolalrs a can and you can pick it up at any John Deere dealer. I recently painted the oem grill on my Taco and so far no scratches. Its easy to apply too. Just rough up the surface and spray. Google John Deere Blitz Black and check it out. Its great paint.

Nice work OP! I start a welding course later this month. I'd love to get to making up my own bumper in the future.

Any chance you can show pics of the way ot connects to the truck frame? And close ups of the shackles?

Good for you Welding is great you can really make some very cool shit. For most of this type of work all you need is a hand grinder with cutting wheels and a good stick welder (ie:Miller). When youre done with your class and you feel like making something, hit me up and Ill help you.
