I've had a 5spd Honda, 2 MT Jeeps since I've been on the road and figure my first vehicle with less than 130k miles should be my final hoorah with MTs. Ntm, I think the MT will be done in the next 5 years. Good news is, the 2022 will have MT option, so I have hope that I will get my truck yet.

I checked that same spreadsheet out. There was a single one of what I wanted on it and only six when you include my second color choice. I agree with you, the 5' beds just don't look right imo. Like the 1st gens that came out with 4 doors: look like a lifted Subi Baja. I get the appeal, just isn't for me.

The allocation is not “Accepted by Toyota” but rather Toyota allocates to the dealer what they want to build. Maybe your dealer has a special relationship whereby they beg to be allocated the proper drivetrain and then they can tweak it for you. But that is the closest that you will get to a “special order.” Like you were told, allocations can be adjusted, except for drivetrains and a “few” other things, which includes premium and advanced technology packages, because they are more structural. Changing a color is easy, if you catch the scheduled build date in time, as is the factory tonneau, and LED lights which are less structural but cannot be added later. The rest are port options and can be changed at will. The bottom line is the same, and consistent with what you have been told and what you have written. Your truck cannot be ordered and you need to make a deal with a dealer that has one ALLOCATED to it that has the fundamental configuration that you want. Good luck and I truly believe that your quest for exactly what you want is both achievable and worth the effort.

I might have gotten a DCLB, but was not willing to give up my 6MT—that is affecting the “popularity” of the short bed. Just like the fact that automatic transmissions outsell manuals 5-1. You simply cannot get a manual except on limited trims and configurations, so it skews the numbers. Don’t be so sure that short beds are always favored over long beds. Other factors are at play.

You’re certainly right about what they produce influencing what sells. I’ve had similar thoughts that the DCLB might be more popular if more were available. I mean, clearly they’re more popular than you would think if you looked at something like the Ford Ranger where they make only short beds for their crew cab. But still, something lead the manufacturer to produce such a large percentage of short beds. I would have to assume that they sold more of them or sold them faster than the long beds.

How far in advance of build dates are your dealers giving you a build date? I know the typical wait between deposit & delivery is ~12wks but curious as to what lead times are between actual allocation and building said allocation are.

I placed an order for a 6MT Lunar Rock on January 31st and found out earlier this week that they weren't able to change any allocations nor order one. Found a 6MT Lunar Rock three hours away that just arrived for a little over MSRP and picking it up tomorrow!

Guess who got a text about an allocation today... said build date will be known in a few days. Crazy timing.

Placed my order 4/2, dealer contacted me 4/9 saying it was scheduled to be built 05/24. Build date pushed back to 5/27 but ITS ACTUALLY BUILT (WOOOOO!). Delivery to dealer expected 6/9, available for pickup 6/10 or 6/11. So total wait time will be almost exactly 10 weeks (70 days) for a 2021 SR5 DCSB 4x4 AT (MGM).

Was it built in Mexico? Mine was built on 5/31 (DCSB Sport MT) but the dealer is saying it won't ship until July 1, an dat the dealer July 7. I'm in New England.

Yep, built in Mexico, delivering to Colorado. That sucks though, maybe just because you are so far?

Or he doesn't want me calling him everyday asking if it's close yet. I'm hoping he's padding it and it arrives early. Seems odd they'd leave a months worth of trucks waiting around. But maybe yours goes by rail and mine by ship.

Yeah, that seems like a ridiculous wait time for a truck that's already built. But you are in the literal opposite corner of the country haha. Who knows what shipping differences that causes, I can't imagine it should take over a month though.

Really hoping mine arrives in a week or two after the build date. It's being built July 7th from the Mexico plant.

Mine was built in Guanajuato 10/26 and didn’t arrive until 12/11. From what I understand, they wait until they can fill up the ship, so if your build date is right after the previous ship has left, your truck sits for a while. Guanajuato is in the center of a peninsula and trucks are transported to either the east or west coast to go by ship, depending on their final destination. Mine was shipped to Long Beach, CA and then by rail to Phoenix.

Mine was built in Guanajuato 04/22 and is currently in transit via rail to the Kansas City port. It did not leave the factory (by rail) until approximately 05/23. The current dealership ETA is 06/15-06/21.

Ours are most likely on the same shipment heading to KC. When I talked to my salesman yesterday he said now it's 21-25 June for delivery to the dealership. Guess we'll see - here's hoping sooner rather than later...;)

I have not heard from my salesman in a couple of days. Last I was told, the train (with our trucks) crossed the border and was in Laredo TX. I with you, hoping sooner rather than later.
