Anyone have a 3G DCLB with a prinsu rack and an X1? looking to trim the height of my prinsu and would love a visual of where the tent rail falls above the cab.

Just scheduled a Tuesday, July 6th install at 10am. Got offered June 30th or July 1st, but called Josh and spoke with him to align with the 7/6 date. This would be day 5 of a 10 day drop from LA to Seattle and back, so stopping in Portland isn't so out of the way.

Another fun piece of info when talking with Josh: so far I'm the only black truck/white camper combo...we'll see how it turns out in real life.

Folks with 3G have not been trimming their Prinsu racks. So far have not heard any issues. The bed is 1" higher than 2nd gens so you have that already going for you. I would think based on my experience with my 2nd gen that it's still possible but so far no reports of isues.

Do you mean first white 2nd Gen Access Cab with black camper? If not there's already a few 2nd Gen and 3rd Gens that are white with a black camper including myself.

I rubbed on my Prinsu but that's only because of the flexing on Moab technical trails LOL! Should be fine on the streets and forest type roads.

I have a 3G DCSB with a Prinsu and a X1. Unfortunately I was getting a small bump during daily driving when driving over larger potholes and speed bumps. I ended up simply trimming 3 3/4” out of the rack and that solved the problem.

Since my solar/electrical system went live my FM radio reception has tanked. In the city here I've always had perfect FM reception for local stations, even after the X1 was installed. Some stations will come in fine at one location but then fade in and out within a few miles drive. Others won't come in at all now. Radio is all but unusable right now.

XM Satellite is pretty bad too. It had some issues before in spots like mountains/forests/downtown where sky is obstructed but it is that bad everywhere now. When the signal is there it is clear, but it cuts in and out constantly every time I pass a big rig, tree, overpass, or any other obstacle.

I've read about solar cables and MPPT controllers causing RFI (radio frequency interference) but those discussions all seem to center around Ham radio and VHF signals on boats. Anyone with solar panels up experienced this? Would relocating the shark fin help address this, or installing a new antenna or some sort of signal booster? I've not seen any discussion regarding interference with car FM radio.

What have you done do your OEM antenna that is at the rear of the roof?

I agree with your speculation that now you have run high current wiring around the X1 above/around your shark fin, you've created electromagnetic interference around your antenna from generating power from the solar.

I haven't touched the OEM antenna/sharkfin. That's why I asked - was wondering if moving it or installing a new antenna elsewhere would help at all. I'm surprised I haven't read about this elsewhere with seemingly everyone putting solar up on vans/RVs/trucks these days.

As many as I can fabricate
This happened to me too. Did some welding on the roof rack and near the solar panel, and lost almost all radio reception. Later on, took off the panel, disconnected the truck battery and when I put it all back together, worked like a charm. So I would do the same and try a major disconnect of all things battery and it may work. It's a free fix. LOL

Oh, and don't forget the battery when you weld..lol

If it was working before the solar MPPT and such, then you have already isolated it to these components. Disconnect the panels from the wiring and see if there is some weird inductive loop happening from the thick gauge cable or if it's caused by the current running through the wiring.

Then likely you'll have to relocate the solar wiring & charge controller away from the rear of the cab or relocate the antennas.

The only thing I have seen is the UpTop Overland thinFin, which you would modify and mount elsewhere.

Thanks, yeah it would be awesome if it was that easy! I am going to go out and play around with connecting/disconnecting a few of the wires. I was already playing with that to see how having panels vs alternator connected affected the charge rate of the battery. So far with the few things I have running the battery has stayed almost fully charged. So if it is just the alternator cable or solar causing the issue I could disconnect that for now. Hopefully re-locating components or cables isn't required.

I did read about those as an option. It sounds like each mix type addresses a different frequency of interference though. So I'm not sure which mix type would work best.

Gotcha - I do know they worked on my CB radio when it was causing interference. I just used a set I got on Amazon and lucked out I guess ha!

I know there are a lot of the tundra fuselages and they are assembling tents as fast as they can.

Just curious if someone on this thread knows a good place to find someone selling their build slot? I'm not in a huge rush, but thought I'd see if I can check if I can get in earlier if someone's looking to sell...
