I got thinking about this idea after doing another small project involving a raspberry pi. How feasible would it be to make active rev match using a pi or an arduino microcontroller? Could I get all the inputs needed from the OBDII port? (Speed, rpm, gear, etc).

I’m thinking if I made a custom wire harness to connect to the OBDII, throttle, and clutch, then I could essentially augment the output of the go-pedal to match rpm

More than anything, I think this could simply be a fun project. But practically speaking it could be a reversible plug-n-play solution to make dealing with the clutch delay valve more bearable, especially for those occasional 2-1 shifts.

    Thoughts, comments, insults?

My first insult I choose is, your dumb.

All kidding aside, try it! Embark down the path, who knows where you'll end up, what you'll learn.

Neat idea for sure! I enjoyed that feature in my M3 when I had it.

Have you done the ADM? I wasn't able to get smooth 2-1 downshifts until then. Now, it's butta.

I know that @MOC221_ has really wanted AutoBlip for some time!

The advantage would be that it’s cool . Also it could assist my fiancé in driving the truck when we’re occasionally in a pinch (she can drive standard, but it’s pretty rough ).

The advantage over the ADM would be that it’s more easily reversed—I’m paranoid about taking it in for warranty work with any modifications.

I love double clutching my downshifts with the aim of getting a buttery-smooth gear engagement (I know the synchros can handle quite a bit of abuse, but it still makes me feel better). If I can get a computer to do it more precisely every time, then I’d call that a win.

...and now the people telling me I should’ve got an automatic

Lol, you taking over @Shellshock 's comedy routine?

To OP, good luck. The Toyota calibration is going to fight you to the bitter end. Ovtune couldn't even completely fix the inconsistent throttle enough to make rev match downshift truly great. I've been trying out various edits in vF to make it better, and have succeeded in making throttle response more linear.. unfortunately blip is still a crapshoot. Sometimes it will respond like I want it with a tap, other times it requires a second nudge or even a stomp lol.

We're kind of a team. A comedy duo, if you will? :D

You're speaking the truth on the challenge though.

Bro, they invented the automatic transmission in like the 1930’s or sumpin. It’s already out there. The market is saturated.

I’m in for active rev match. The first one goes to @MOC221_ though, he’s been wanting autoblipper for years

Another onion layer in throttle response is probably that ATRTA - related multiplier table. I haven't seen any evidence that ppl have done anything with it.
Also, since I've "had the opportunity " to mess with all six PTET forward gear tables, I've noticed that it takes the ECM somewhere between 0.5 to 1.0 seconds to start using table for the gear you just shifted to.

Do you mean ARTA? If so, I have not tried touching that one. I am interested to see what differences there are once we get to look at the Ultimate tunes.

That has been my biggest question since we have very few sensor inputs on the clutch and gearbox. How the hell does the ECU determine the gear. The only method that makes sense is calculating the wheel speed to RPM ratio. The biggest issue, as you know, is the transient areas are where we need absolute consistency and predictability. Waiting for the confuser to figure out the gear or even change maps is just broken.

I’m really struggling here. You MT guys all wanna play god: “I choose the damn gear that I’m in, and I fuggin’ choose when to shift, gosh darnit!!”. But then you also want the throttle to automatically rev match? Huh?

I don’t get it. It’s like a woman getting a sex change to be a man, so they can, in turn, dress in drag. I dunno. It is 2021, so I suppose it’s all in keeping with the times.

Please don't confuse the old jokes or tuning convo here with the AutoBlip that the OP wants. That eliminates all but the rarest of interest in a real AutoBlip mod.

Nope, you got your Acronym wrong for this one Tony. Acceleration Throttle Request to Airload.. ATRTA.
I'm referring to the 3rd table that has multiplier values of basically .9, .8, and .5.

You should trade for an automatic. You are cheating and cheaters never win. Karma is a bitch. Get rid of the girlfriend and find one who can drive a stick.

I’ll have to do some reading on this. As a closet MT fanboy, I’m just not aware of what this automation will do for you, that you couldn’t do yourself with your feet. I am curious, so will leave you guys now to discuss your “automatic manuals” and do my own research. Autoblip sounds cool.
