Installing longer rear brake lines from wheelers

I'm about to tackle this installation this weekend. Any advice from someone who's done it? The note with the lines says they are different but I cannot see "2 clip grooves" in either line.

 

answer this, do you have an 09 + TRD OR 4x4 (that is, do you have a truck with the electric boosted master cylinder?)

If you do your job is easy.

Install them, get a piece of wood to go between the seat to hold the pedal depressed. Set up drain lines on the bleeders and get proper tools to get them open

Turn your key to on (motor doesnt need to be running), crack your bleeders on the back (make sure the master rez is topped off you dont want to suck air) and the electric pump will continuously push fluid until pressure is built due to the pedal being depressed close the bleeders once all air is pushed out.

 

• Soak all 4 fittings in pb blaster for days leading up.
• Crack free all 4 fittings with the proper flare nut wrench to ensure all will crack free, then snug back up so they don’t drip.
• If one doesn’t crack free, vice grips are your friend
• Once that step is done, put the vice grips on the stock rubber line and pinch it closed
• Undo bottom fitting
• Install new line on the bottom
• Quickly unscrew the top fitting and swap in the new line. Won’t lose much fluid this way at all
• Repeat on the second brake line
• Bleed brakes

 

I don’t see two grooves either.

 

Drop the spare tire, that'll give you a lot more room to work. You can even sit under the truck back there instead of laying on your back. The upper connections at the frame are a bitch and a half to get to, but you can go by feel. Some people have unbolted the mounting bracket to get better access to the flare nuts (at the frame- it's visible through the driver's side wheel well just above the upper shock mount), but I'd recommend not doing this because you loose the leverage that the hard mounted bracket provides to crack the nuts loose.

 

These may not be the same as the Goodridge stainless ones I used but beware that the rear fixed mount on the body had smaller heads/slots so I had to file the slots larger to get the new lines to fit in the mount so the clip would hold it in. Took awhile and a mess back there - hope yours fit as is but be ready - a Dremel tool would have been faster than a flat file but that's all I had and did not expect it. Anyone else have the same problem?

 

This. 100x this. I forgot to mention it but do not unbolt the brake brackets, either of them.

Thanks for all your replies. Does anyone have any clue what wheelers is talking about with the two lines being different? I will probably call tomorrow if I cant figure it out. Maybe they gave me two of the same side?

 

Does it squirt out quickly under pressure from the pump?

Another tip, don’t bother with the clips they provide. Reuse the factory ones, they work great. Installed 6-7 sets this way.

 

Oh my god so that is how those clips go......I never figured it out and just used the factory ones.

 

All done! Easy job although the suggested method of ignition on and brake pedal depressed to make the booster pump kick on did not work. Pump never turned on, so I bled them the old fashioned way.

Droop is definitely better, but I still want moar! Going for some hammer hangers to finish this rear end off.

 

Advise needed. I did this today and (I think) all went well. Except I couldn’t get clips back on the tops. Should I be worried?

I put Goodridge braided 2” extended brake lines on years ago and had to file (or dremel) those fixed top mounts to get the new lines to correctly fix into them so the clips would lock in. Think it was a larger flat side opening that I opened up.
