Do both of these come with remote start or no?

I've used Viper and Compustar. My current setup is with Compustar for one main reason. I was able to setup a touch pad (mounted inside my windshield) to lock or unlock the truck. Otherwise my alarm package is basic with audible alarm. They have systems that are more comprehensive with GPS and remote starts, etc. I've had no issues with them since it was installed 3 years ago.

I also have a console safe that I use in conjunction with the touch pad. Sometimes I lock my keys in the safe for a quick run or activities I can't bring the keys along.

I don’t even have power locks so I don’t think there’s much point in getting keypad or keyless entry...

Do you think the remote start is worth it?

You can get them just remote start or you can get the alarm/remote start and alarm or even comes out now with a GPS model where you can control it from anywhere

My car alarm guy is pulling his hair freaking out because dei discontinued the Clifford alarms he’s been selling. I have them in the taco and work truck. This weekend the alarm is being swapped for the third time into a newer work vehicle.

@shakerhood, we just discussed this via text message...

@ColoradoTJ, my truck is still using oil...

I got complacent and didn't check it as stringently as I used to before switching to 5W20. I'm going on a 2-hour drive to York and stopping in Quarryville on the way back, so I checked the oil like I do before any long trip; It's at least half a quart low. My truck runs great, doesn't overheat even at idle in traffic with A/C cranked when it's in the 90s, and shows absolutely no signs of oil leaks or seepage. My mechanic compression tested it last year and it was fine; The engine runs smooth and there no lights on, so I am confused. If not tended to, my truck seems to be consuming a quart of oil every 3,500 miles, and I'm told this is normal.

    I say again...

    • The truck seems to smoke a tiny bit at startup when it's been sitting overnight (at the exhaust pipe) but this goes away
    • Engine runs smooth as silk and you can barely hear it at idle
    • The engine does not run hot, even in extremely hot weather with the A/C cranked
    • There are no signs of oil leaks or seepage underneath the truck or anywhere around the engine
    • Last year's compression test was normal

Would prolific A/C use in hot weather cause the engine to consume more oil?

    @Taco critter

Accidentally touched the metal part of the dipstick to one of the battery terminals while fumbling around under the hood in the dark; It sparked and scared the shit out of me, but luckily I was holding the plastic part...

ditto. Toyota mechanics will even tell you so (honest ones; they’re not just towing the company line).

Some brands or types of oil will consume at a faster rate, as well. Mobil1 full synthetic, especially the thinner stuff like 5w20 or 0w20, will get consumed at a faster rate, from what I’ve been told.
