    Thread revival.

gents I have a question. I ordered what I thought was a tundra booster and master cylinder from a 2018 but this one looks different than the ones you all have been posting. This one doesn’t have the “electronic ports” on the front like the OP’s does.

the master cylinder looks to be the right part however....... just need some guidance!

I have a 30 day return and will send back if it is in fact the wrong booster.

edit: searched the VIN and it’s coming up as a 2018 tundra 2WD.

    thanks in advance!

Based on those photos, and comparing against OP's original post, the photos look similar to the Tacoma booster except vacuum port is in wrong spot. You probably need to find a different one to make this work.

To me it looks like the booster that I used and the booster that you bought are identical with the exception of the missing electrical plugs on your booster. I would definitely try to use the booster that you bought unless you won't be able to install it before time runs out to return it, if you can't install it before time runs out to return it then I would return it and get one identical in every way to the one I used because we know that version works well.

2007-2018 Tundra master cylinder and booster.
You can't install Tundra rotors and calipers on a 2nd gen Tacoma, use 4Runner rotors and calipers.

You have a defective booster, either rebuild it or replace it.

Thanks for the response man. Does the master cylinder and booster slide right in through the fire wall or will I have to drill new mounting holes?

No new holes, bolts right in. It is a tight fit getting it past the inner fenderwell but it will slide in without modding the inner fenderwell.

    Couple questions.
    1. Has anyone had issues in the snow? Wondering if it would be more prone to locking up in slippery conditions.
    2. What about using the Tundra/Seqouia booster with the Tacoma master? That would alleviate having to make new lines.

It won't change anything in the snow. I recommend reading through the whole thread, in the middle it says you can't use the taco mc with the tundra booster

    Ahh, thank you!

I did a quick read through and I must have missed that about the Tacoma MC and Tundra booster.

we have a manual trans, anyone know how to deal with that on the tundra MC conversion? Add another small clutch master reservoir I suppose?

Swapping for larger rotors and calipers changes the piston and bore size in the caliper. Such a swap requires more fluid needed to be moved than before from the master cylinder. That swap by itself will make the brake pedal travel further to the floor to reach the same psi as before. Therefore in my opinion a larger master cylinder with a larger piston is an easy decision. Then your brake pedal will be moving more fluid with no additional assistance from the brake booster than it had before. Therefore a larger or a dual diaphragm booster is also an easy decision to make. Dual diaphragm boosters have a small diameter.

I've never had the opportunity to look at a 2nd gen manual transmission truck so I can't help with that. The first place I would look is at a Tundra with a manual trans, maybe the whole assembly could be swapped idk.

As far as the snow driving aspect I live in a desert so I can't help there either.

I drive mine pretty hard. I tow a lot of heavy boats. I love my truck's brakes.

I don't think they made manual transmission Tundras and the issue with the tundra master is that there is no port on the reservoir to feed the clutch master (see pic below of our master. I can think of a few simple solutions for this, but wondering if anyone has already solved this problem...

Yes. Wilwood makes external reservoirs. You could also try an 95 Era Tacoma reservoir. Since they were standalone from the brakes.

Just completed my swap. Huge improvement. Thanks to everyone here for the links to the lines, adapters and the extension for the booster rod. I can’t weld so without that booster extension from eBay I’d be SOL.
