I wonder if with the sport tune putting those 4lo settings I sent you would be better? That controls the throttle much better

I believe so. I’ll look into throwing them in once these MTs are done and I get to devote the attention to sport again.

Finally solved the 2018 MT issue

More like Strawberry Blonde haha. It’s SOO hard to get the tune to feel identical to an AT truck simply because the torque models are crucial in the tune. Plus the optimal engine TQ map is 10000000% different for the MTs. Don’t get me started on PTET maps :(

So far I have the tune feeling just the way it should on them. The exception is that some years have an odd 4lo sluggish feel, some (2018) ran rough and needed a complete redesign, and others run absolutely perfect.

Lower mileage is expected since they run taller gears stock and shift points are all in consistent based on the driver’s style. But it gets them damn near close to AT mileage

Made the switch to vr 2.03 and am very happy. Was running kdmax 6.0 and it wasn’t IMO a good fit for the truck, too sports car like. The vr shifting is much nicer around town, more predictable and the balance on the freeway between downshift and hold is perfect. The power is much more usable as well, at rpms we need them and not screaming yet still runs great up top as well. All in all I think this is a much more refined everyday tune and I much prefer it over the kdmax style. Not dogging on kdmax but it wasn’t a good fit for me. This is how the truck should have came factory, and it may have convinced me to not sell it and get back into a full-size. Props!

Hey man glad to hear you’re enjoying it and decided to keep the truck! You had Anthony install it for you I take it? Great guy.

The tune runs exceptionally well in the PNW when I was there last week. Long grades are better than the rolling hills of Ohio.

No Paul in Portland did it. He’s who originally did the kdmax tune for me. Went through rounds trying to get the kdmax to work well and just couldn’t for my driving.

Yea that tends to be what most people experience who don’t need a fully aggressive driving style all the time. I went for the balance of being able to drive normally when you want, but have the power to be aggressive on demand.

I’m glad that someone managed to get you sorted out with something you like!

I think you nailed it. Very smooth off the bottom end and with light throttle it’s only a little more aggressive tip in wise which I really like. It is nice watching it run up to 6500 when I want to as well, all in all I think it’s a very polished tune and will recommend it to all my buddies that hate their 3rd gens lol.

I’m in search of someone with a 2019 MT truck who would be willing to test VR 2.0.

Only that model year truck has been untested, anyone willing to do so would obviously receive the tune for free

If you are in the Portland area and don't have the ability to flash your own tune I'll offer $100 off my tuning service to help get this done. Offer good until there is a 2019 MT tester.

    Not a problem.

In case anyone is wondering, if for some reason the tune doesn't work well you can flash right back to stock, so you don't have to worry about being a tester. If I'm doing it I would put you on OVT 2.0 until it's fixed on the off chance that happens.

Congrats on what sounds like a very usable tune. I have read all of the posts for most of the tunes. I am considering it for my 2021 OR. One question is on cruise control. I thought I read somewhere that there is a different map for cruise? Does the tune work when the truck is on cruise too? My 21 works pretty well on the highway when not on cruise...my Camry does too. Thanks! Anyone close to northern Illinois?

Odds are the 2019s are error free. 2018 MT needed a complete rebuild. I’ll provide both renditions of a 2019 file

Cruise changes are all related to shift points and input/output shaft speeds.

The shift points are adjusted to maximize the power on the low end and keep the truck in the OD gears as much as possible.

I’m not sure who is closest to you. I’m in Cleveland if you ever decide to come over this way.

Hopefully someone is available. MTs are rare enough, but a specific year of them is even harder to find
