I’d like to at least receive my tent so I can give it a fair review. Still no movement on my tracking info. Second time I’ve been told I’d see it shipped and still hasn’t happened.

 

I'm guessing here as to the actual weight, although I'm pretty sure its not 126lbs. Probably somewhere in the middle of that range of 126-165. Won't know for sure until I can get it hanging from the rafters in the garage with an inline scale. I'm a spec nerd, and I tend to calculate load based on the type of driving I do.

 

I debated keeping my softopper and getting a rack for over it, or going with bed bars with the heavier tent. I liked the Tank due to being just over a 100 lbs and having a rack, and bought a rack for over the softopper. If it’s 150 with out any thing on the tent rack, makes me nervous, and not sure how the truck is going to like that much weight up high.
Looks like my tent made it to New York this evening, so I’ll get to see mine soon.

also any T bolts work (or large head bolt) and you can then use the WEW bracket. Other guys use it on their setups.

I have this set up.
Doesn’t really affect me much unless I’m going on super off camber stuff. Then it puckers me up.

I had a Roam Vagabond XL before up top and that was 200+ lbs and didn’t have any issues with my aluminum rack.

 

good to know. Question though. Is there a confirmation on the actual weight of the tents ? Seem concerning if the tank (non xl) has a freight of 188# when advertised as 126#. Seems like a gap to reconcile.

Any insights you can provide are appreciated as I too like to plan what is on my rack by load limit.

When you got your tent was the accessory with it?

 

The tent should weigh around the 130 lb marker. I haven’t physically weighed it myself. And I’m waiting to confirm if the DA guys have physically weighed it too. But they did say that all boxed up the shipping weight should be over 180 and closer to 200


The extra weight is the pallet and dunnage that goes with shipping etc.

 

So most pallets are about 30 lbs, if I remember correctly a lot of 4 way pallets come in closer to 27 lbs. So at 188 lbs (Fed Ex reported weight) minus 30 lbs comes in at 158, that leaves 30lbs for picking materials.

For those of you worried about sealing there is stuff like this (see link) that you can replace the existing flashing with to better seal.

I will be sending my tent back if I need to seal it up to keep dirt and water out, I will not modify a 3 thousand dollar tent to keep it clean or dry, thats complete bullshit to think that some one needs to do something like that. Desert Armor will hear from me if thats the case. AND I WILL NOT PAY THE restocking fee.

You're absolutely right. I thought the same but I'm not on the hook so I didn't say anything. A cosmetic fix is one thing, keeping water and dirt out is a pretty important structural job.

If DA doesn't work with you, call your credit card company. Discover has always had my back the few times I've needed them. Everyone should pay with a CC and not a debit card or another form for this reason.

I too want to emphasize no ill will towards the OP who is just the messenger.

 

I would also like to add, this by far is my worst purchase experience. and only adds to my NEVER SHOP ONLINE. And I understand COVID (common excuse for everything now) had an effect, but POOR COMMUNICATION, but no issue TAKING MY MONEY WHILE I WAIT FOR over 2 extra months.
I didn't say anything before, but for them to not "know" it took an extra month to ship is complete BULLSHIT, and if they really didn't know, then who to hell are we working with on this deal.

 

I’m back to tent shopping now, I left a message asking if I was expected to modify my tent to keep it dry and clean, and if that was the case, I wanted them to stop shipment and refund my money.

just got a message that the refund will be processed.
