Will it run in limp mode if you unplug the maf?

 

I will try that next. Right now I’m holding the gas to see if it’ll stay running and idle after a period of time

 

Stays running if you unplug the MAF and idles. Weird.

 

This is what happened when my 3RZ MAF started to fail and IAC.

 

I hope that URD aluminum crank pulley holds up better than the supercharger pulleys do,
My supercharger pulleys were shot less than 50k miles later both,
Ribs total worn down and belt slipping

 

You are amazing, it was the MAF. I unplugged it and the engine would idle like normal. I went across the street and borrowed the MAF off my truck and plugged it in, and it runs totally fine.

I had two codes after I messed with everything, one for the MAF and one for the IAC. I cleared them and it didn't come back. It may still bet be the IAC, but the truck would stay running with the MAF from my truck. Told the owner to get a new MAF and we'll go from there.

 

I got a cheapo IAC and MAF off Amazon and both have been working for a few years since.

 

Did both fail simultaneously? I got an IAC code, but it wasn't there originally. Only after I messed with the MAF

 

Ordered a new OEM steering rack

I’ll let you know how it holds up. I’ll be keeping most of the old engine for spares. It’s not my daily driver either so 50k miles would last me a few years.

 

My SC pulley is 2.2” URD as well. Will probably switch to the Pulley boys 2.0 soon. Just want to get it running at the moment so I have a good baseline. I did, however, install the Corolla thermostat and rudenium NGK plugs that were suggested in the SC thread.

 

This is the nature of aluminum pulleys, not a fan myself unless they're an idler or something not really driven with a load. I don't like solid crank pulleys because they have no harmonic dampening and on a V6 (one of the least balanced engine configurations) that's undesirable and may lead to premature main bearing wear

 

me cause I need the same damn thing again. Mostly because I’m afraid if I don’t address the rack leak ASAP I’ll burn out my fairly new oem pump.

 

DTM A4 or S4?

 

Thought about just rebuilding the rack? Seals are super cheap. I did it on my supra and it's a fairly straight forward process

The video I followed, looks fairly close to the Tacoma with minor differences. If you have the service manual it'll help too. Plus there's a test you can do to make sure it actually works before installing it on the truck

Kinda, I got the IAC first to fix an idle issue and then having constantly cleaned the MAF and would still have stumble issues so one day after pulling over I unplugged the MAF to run in limp mode and it ran better so I just replaced the MAF sensor. It's still running good but the engine is now in the 4Runner.

My hopes is to replace this rack with a new OEM one, and giving the other one's rebuild a go. Biggest hurdle is that 8 sided sucker.
