Traded in my 2018, which I never really fell in love with and started to actively dislike, for a 2011 with a MANUAL TRANSMISSION... (just typing those words hits me in my special purpose after 2 years of 3rd gen AT humping and jumping.) It's got 180K on it but with a manual and a 4 cylinder I don't think mileage really means a whole lot. Always a local, southern truck with a good frame. 2 door, 4wd, short cab, cloth. Poverty package. 6 foot bed (nice). Manual windows. I feel like I'm back in high school.

    upload_2021-6-3_17-47-44.jpg

Ignore the stinger - it's already gone.

So what is different about the 05-11 trucks? Just cosmetic? I see that the million mile Taco was also an 11 so I'll obviously do the same. Any particular issues I can spend money on? It already has what looks to be about a 2" lift but it's glassy smooth on the interstate.

This has an electric 4wd actuator dial of course, is the actual 4wd mechanism different in this truck than the 18? People had lots of trouble with the little plastic boxes and cheap gears of the 18 failing in water crossings, which of course is not covered under warranty, don'tcha know. Hoping this truck is more robust there.

I paid 34K - did I get a good deal? (LOL, not really.) I got more in trade-in than I paid for my 18 though. Basically drove it the past 2 years for about $2000. They nearly fainted when they saw I wanted to trade it in - it's a big dealership and they have one (1) new Tacoma on the lot and are expecting 1 to come in in about 2 weeks. They have some used ones that won't last 2 weeks they said. Every single car in the showroom was used. It's scary out there, but if you're sitting on a 3rd gen now's the time to trade.

The PO did a K&N air filter so I'm gonna look into returning that to stock.

What's your favorite oil? Which tires can I run? :boink:

Congrats. I sold my 25k mile 2016 Taco to a Toyota dealer this week. Got what I paid 5.5 years ago. I have my sights on a few 2007 to 2011 access cabs myself. Already have a few mods stored in my browser. Owned all 4 versions of Tacoma. 88 SR5. 00 Prerunner. 08 Prerunner. 16 Sport. Never had the confidence in the 16 power train that I had with previous 4 and 6 cylinders or manual and automatic transmissions. The 2.7 and 4.0 are the kings of Toyota truck durability. The 3.5 will either disappear or be re-tuned in the 4th gen Tacoma. That 6 speed automatic should be moved to the Prius. I am very excited to go back to a 2nd gen 4.0 V6 truck. I also look forward to passing many "pretty" 3rd gen trucks on the road.

This is 1 reason I bought my Tacoma. The resale value is great. Especially during this shortage. Wow 5.5 year old selling for what u paid for it! No depreciation there.

Holy shit! I paid $22k for my 2010 TRD off-road access cab V6 4x4 with 33k miles... back in 2011!

I’m pretty sure $34k is significantly more than that truck cost new. Assumed you were in Cali based on the price paid so surprised to see it was that much in TN. Bought mine in SE Virginia.

But still congrats since you’re happy about it. 2nd gens are the shit. Love 1st gens for wheeling but I think the 2nd gen is the best of both worlds for daily driving and wheeling. Get some basic creature comforts but don’t have a Camry engine or an excessive amounts of electronic witchcraft going on either.

Yes and mine was rear wheel drive access cab. This is a hard truck to sell because the market is much smaller. The book value was much higher than what I sold it for. I just figured that was a good deal. Never done that before. Usually you drive a new one off the lot and the value drops $3000. I already decided, if I couldn't find a reasonable deal on a 2nd gen, that I would get a new Ranger when they drop $5k at end of year clearance. I do not want a Ranger, however, I have more faith in that 4 banger than in my 3.5 automatic. Sad but true. Fortunately I am finding good deals on 2nd gens under 100k miles. That is a relief.

Damn just looked it up. Original MSRP on a 2011 regular cab 4x4 was $20.2k. Seller damn near doubled their money!

Haha well I’m glad u didn’t actually pay that much. Your original post makes it sound like you overpaid. Or that’s just how I read it. Either way nice truck. I have 186K miles on my 08. Bought it brand new back in 08. Love my truck and will drive the wheels off of it.

trading in my 2010 4 cylinder manual access cab 4x4 was my biggest regret vehicle wise. yours should have actual greasable zerks on the driveline, so make sure those are full, and pull the spark plugs (especially the rear most one) and see if its clean or if there is oil blowback. For some reason the spark plugs on my 2.7 would always loosen themselves eventually.
