    Jobs report disappointing...again.
People are not returning to work because it turns out of you close down everything for a year there might not be a job to go back to!
+ side my kid got hired to work at a local greasy spoon...first job. Very excited for summer work.

    NOW...
Let's focus on $NVDA getting back over $690...I mean come on...a 3% gain puts it over $700 from here...It's so easy, it's RIGHT there....

The job my kid got is at a diner that shut down for a year...they were just doing friday night take out.
They are VERY excited to be reopening...My community did a great job supporting local businesses. I think we only lost 2 restaurants. One was a national chain that's parent company shut it all down. The other was a mom and pop BBQ that could not survive on the tight margins and meat prices. We have a great BBQ place 20 miles from here that straight up posted on their facebook that "Meat prices are getting insane. We've raised prices 3x in 3 weeks. We apologize but we can't absorb any more costs."
The response from consumers was great...very understanding.

We lost a couple Mom & Pop retail stores but that is about it. I think they were on their way out regardless. It was just the last straw. We (our area) are having trouble finding people to work. No one wants to work. Everyone we have hired lately quits.

A lot of people also discovered welfare benefits are as good or potentially better than the shit job they were working.

Expanded unemployment benefits arent helping either.

If you want more of something, you subsidize it.
If you want less of something, you tax it.

Yep. We talked about that in this thread at the beginning of COVID. How there's eventually going to be no incentive for lower income people to return to work because they make more on UI. It's gonna be a problem until they all expire in Sept. Then I expect a blowout Oct jobs report. Some States are killing the extra fed UI money early so that will start to help some.

Startlingly simple, but also startlingly unknown in my opinion.

Knowledge of basic economics, finance, and organizational behavior is startlingly lacking in the general population.

... but ask what color underwear some random flash-in-a-pan youtube singer is wearing and they're right on it.
