Yep. We talked about that in this thread at the beginning of COVID. How there's eventually going to be no incentive for lower income people to return to work because they make more on UI. It's gonna be a problem until they all expire in Sept. Then I expect a blowout Oct jobs report. Some States are killing the extra fed UI money early so that will start to help some.

 

Startlingly simple, but also startlingly unknown in my opinion.

 

Knowledge of basic economics, finance, and organizational behavior is startlingly lacking in the general population.

This is what she wants to do next year. My summer job is to get her swimming skills refined to pass the test. I’ve been after her her whole life to “swim better“ but she never cared...until she realized it’s a great job. I was a lifeguard for 6 years. Did 60 hour weeks all summer. I worked my ass off at it. It was basically the equivalent of 70 hours a week pay with time and a half for three months. I paid for a lot of my college with that

 

Indeed - in northeast GA just about every place I go by has help wanted signs out and is struggling to find workers who will show up.

Most important lesson I ever taught anyone about lifeguarding is the lifeguard is not a babysitter. I would 100% allow a three year old to fall into the pool and then rescue them just to teach the parents a lesson. It was a bonus if their a little inflatable swimmies popped off their arms. I would just leave the swimmies in the pool and make the parents go get them

 

Yeah I mean even if it’s only 80% of what you were making why bother going to work. If someone offered you 20% less money to just stay at home and never work again I think you would make ends meet
