Using my truck for work purposes today and ended up in a ditch with another work truck.

Crunched the front end pretty good. I rear ended them. Think Geico would not cover me since i was on a Forest Road? Still a legal road.
    Thanks!

If you were on the clock at work and using your personal vehicle i would think your work insurance should cover it.

Pretty hit or miss given my experience. I know certain companies offer separate insurance specific to off-roading but since it's a workplace accident you might be okay. Again you won't really know until you talk to your insurance company.

Find your policy go to the section on property damage. Then read the exclusions and see if any of those apply.

If your employer authorized to use your personal vehicle than they would be responsible for the damages . If not you will have to try to submit a claim with your insurance company .it might be covered threw them since it happened while on a job not recreational use . Best of luck .

    Oh man, sorry to hear.
It's a complicated case, being on a Forest Road shouldn't matter, using your truck for work might, rear ending someone is never a good thing..

If you are an employee (not company owner) and are using your personal truck for work purposes this might be a :crapstorm:unless you have previously informed your insurance about using the truck for work.

Their argument being they insure you to drive to work, not to drive for work.

This. Hopefully OP had his truck properly rated. Where I live you would need to insure it commercially, even if you are only an employee. It boils down to the usage. Where I live if this was rated property they would cover it but it would be classified as a single vehicle collision which would be subject to a deductible (if applicable) and rated at fault.

Yes it sucks that he rear ended his buddy's truck on a county road while driving TO work. In Minecraft, of course.

I work for the forest service and the govt is self insured and i hit a work rig when the driver slid off the road so its even more complicated than just hitting a regular work truck

Oh boy, that's gonna be some paperwork. Hopefully USFS is less critical on red tape than the DOD was with their fleet of street vehicles.

Do you regularly drive the truck to work? You shouldnt have to explain every address you drive to. A simple " I was on my way to work", not " I was using my ride for work". It's all in the semantics. If explained simply like that to your Ins Co. they would probably not put up a fight.

This is the best possible advice. Insurance policies differ so you can't rely on forum advice. Your policy will tell you what's covered and what's not.

Does car insurance cover off-roading? The truth is that most car insurance policies cover “normal use”. This means that if you get into a crash while off-roading, you'll most likely be covered, but if you roll your vehicle, that probably wouldn't be covered.

If you were on a FS "Road", my guess your insurance or your work insurance will cover the accident. That is a dirt road that is maintained. If you were on a non designate road but a "two track" you would need to check your policy and inquire with our agent.
