    Yikes! Do what you can to keep the poor thing safe and calm. Birds especially are more harmed by stress than actual injury most times. Keep him someplace quiet until you can get help for him.

    That is a sad story, I hope his prognosis is good. Once I came upon a kestrel hawk with a compound fracture to the wing. We found a group that helps injured birds. I took him home, gave him some burger, and they came and picked him up, and told me he would probably be ok.

    Does the hawk only have one leg?

    The Deputy was there when I arrived this morning. He took the bird to a rehibalitator the Game Commission uses. I was in high hopes as it was in better "spirits" than it was last night.

    Later in the day, the Warden returned with the tote we had given him to transport the bird.

    :( :( :( :(

    They had to put him down. It had a broken leg. He said they don't recover from that.

    On the upside, they are pressing charges against the trapper. The Warden asked if I would testify should need be. I said yes. Apparently they are charging him for a violation from previously in the year too.

    That sucks! The reason the trap was probably set is that some dog trainers will pay about 125 for an alive coyote and 50 for a dead one. At least around here, if he was not selling them then he needs to not be as lazy and get out in the woods and be patient
