I had to pay $110 because I purchased a secondary warranty, but was reimbursed later

    Update:

Dealership changed air switching valves and repaired the air pump all under warranty. They did not ask about the cold air intake. They will be undercoating in two weeks for the frame recall/remedy. Just thought I would leave the update.

I actually just had this done as well, not because I wanted to, but because I had to for registration. Whatever. It was a relatively painless process which took me two trips there because they knew what needed to be done. I was out of the truck for less than one business day at a time so it worked out in the end.

My 2012 has about 90,000 on it and runs great. Did the Uni Filter mod a while back, the foam was dirty but didn't look like it was failing. Just for shits & giggles is there a way to get it to throw a 2440 & 2442 code before the extended warranty runs out this year to get the dealer to fix it.

I’m not sure really how to make it do it. Basically what was wrong with mine was that there was water and dust in the air valves that made them stick open or closed. They also changed the filter/sponge in the air pump because that sponge falls apart they say and can ruin the pump and valves. Truthfully, depending on your dealer, they might just do it because it is technically a recall notice for those valves and to fix the pump.

Remove the filter and spray water in it. Excessive road spray is what killed mine the first time.

If you say that codes came up, and have water in the hoses or the filter is wet, they might just do it anyways. Also when I took my air valves off, there was water sitting right below the valve inside where it goes together. That would probably do it especially if they found water.

check your “My Toyota owners” website. I have an “open recall” not an “extended warranty”
Called the dealer and they confirmed. Valves will get replaced no matter what if you throw a code you will get a new pump as well ...without a code you will just get a replacement filter and some other repair on your original pump

Sorry if this has been covered - does anyone have the part number for the original foam filter? I thought I might just replace it rather than doing the uni filter mod. Truck has 130,000 km on original filter. Thanks in advance. Cheers

Guess what? The filter does not seem to be available as a separate part but only as part of the pump assembly. Perhaps a salvage yard or make your own from a suitable piece of air filter foam.

@Taco’09 that’s what I was thinking but thought I would ask. I will go the uni filter mod route then. Thanks!

Someone mentioned a Briggs & Stratton filter that is the same height as the Tacoma one. All that had to be done was cut to size.

Summer is here and the codes have returned. No dealer love for 2.7 owners though.
Either I'll ignore the lights as usual, or I'll cave and get the block plate kit.

On the V6 a SAIS code will put the truck in limp mode and it’s undrivable.
