Is it as simple as removing the large bolts in the bed and sliding it out the back? I think not as I look closer, seems to be pined in with the sheet metal too. Any existing thread anybody can remember?

Bed sides do come off for repair, but not just the composite bed portion.

OK, I think that may be a bit too much for me just to seal the bed up better. But very much appreciate the perspective. Do have one question though (well after reading through this, several) the box between the fuel filler and the left rear wheel is what? My 2021 OR is deficient in this aspect! By the way, just what were you doing to your truck when these pictures were taken?

To remove the bed on a 3rd gen you must remove the bed bolts, tailgate, rear bumper, or at
Minimum loosen it and slide it back, tail lights and wiring, camera wiring, fuel cap, fuel filter plastic housing which is 4-10mm bolts, fuel filler is in the way so depending on how much want to move the bed it needs to be lifted over the filler hose, or the filler hose needs to be removed which is difficult to do with the bed on and gas tank in. The issue just sliding it back is the metal braces on the bed closest to the cab, I believe these will hit the fuel filler pretty fast when sliding it back. The little boxes you mentioned are little cubbyholes that the 2nd Gen (pictured) and 3rd gens had up until I think 2020 when they removed them. That 2nd gen has even more cubbies that a 3rd gen tho.

2nd gens (pre-2012 I believe) had additional storage cubbies above the wheel wells. I believe that is what you are referring to. There's also the large one behind the left rear that they discontinued around 2019.

Im so confused why they'd remove those cubbies. Especially the large one that just got removed. Tacomas are already low on space.

Cause they’re being cheap, saved some money for removing some very useful cubbies. Mine have not been empty since the day I bought the truck, they loaded with ratchet straps and bungees.
