My wife's 2012 Tacoma has been acting up lately. Turn the key, click and nothing, turn the key again and it starts right up.

I did a little research and cleaned the battery contacts, still clicked the next morning. Then I tool the battery to autozone and it tested good. I guess my next step it to remove the starter and rebuild the contacts.

I did a search but I'm not finding any write ups about removing the starter on an 2.7, I'm looking for something with pics hopefully. I'm new to working on my own stuff and pics always help.

Just a thought here, you can't figure out how to remove the starter, yet are assuming you're going to rebuild the unit yourself?

domromer hasn't been around since 2018.

Typical of people. Ask others for advice but then never update us on how it went.

I pulled mine a couple weeks ago, but 4.0, not 2.7. Different but probably close to the same.

I would suggest 6 point sockets for the 2 bolts, and either a long 3/8 or 1/2 drive ratchet. You’ll also need an assortment of extensions. If you have a front drive shaft, it’s a bigger job, one that I would consider paying someone else to do. Of course you know to disconnect the battery then loosen the bolted terminal on the starter before unbolting it.

Not sure if you are 4X4 or not... Prerunner and a 4 cylinder is easy as pie. Unplug solenoid wire plug. Disconnect battery cable. Remove two easy to access bolts. Pull starter out from the bottom. 15 minutes.

V6 and 4X4 = huge pain in the @ss because you have to wiggle it out through the wheel well.
