Some truth to that way of thinking, but the lane departure warning function could definitely save lives in the scenario where a driver accidently falls asleep at the wheel due to fatigue and starts to drift out of their lane. It happens all the time! On short trips I can see disabling the thing, but on long boring drives it is probably smart to leave it on.

PS: that stupid warning message the OP is complaining about (lane departure being unavailable below 32 MPH) is there because of some lawyer.

    I agree with you...
But it is a simple task to press one button on the steering wheel when driving around town!
    One push.
Personally I turned mine off in 2019 and have not turned it back on.
Distracted driving is much more prevalent than falling asleep at the wheel.

Probably because you're looking at the road when driving. This works for me anyways.

It pops up in the screen between the tach and the speedo. I was taught in drivers ed. to always be checking your surroundings. Including review and side mirrors. So I notice it when it pops up. It needs a "don't show me this again" option like the service reminders in the head unit. But you can also hit the back button on the steering wheel and it goes away.

Set yourself free OP. You can do it. Maybe.

Nope, it's not. Putting down the got'damn cell phone and looking at the road...that's a safety thing.

I would leave mine on if I could disable that stupid warning. My commute is mostly highway from the time I leave my driveway, so it can be a while before my speed drops back under 32 and that warning pops up on the dash. Then, I see something change on the dash in my peripheral vision and glance down to see that dumb warning. It would be nice to have an option for it not to show up again.

I came back on an 85 mile trip today and could not get the warning to appear. I am usually on the menu furthest to the left with the exclamation point, but I put it on the lane assist screen and couldn’t get it to work there either, even though it beeped at faster speeds. I guess I should count my blessings.

I learned crossing the lines you get the annoying beeping. Radio volume up and windows down = problem solved. I miss my 2017 with zero TSS systems.

I never knew that I departed lanes so much until my Taco told me so. Been driving 30 years. Who knew I was all over the road? My Taco must think it is being used as a clown car.

Incidentally, do not buy a Tacoma built for England for use in the U.S. - The lane departure system will explode.

You can turn the sensitivity down which helps with that.

I got a totally new idea.

At or below 32 mph, you're likely in traffic. Instead of turning off the system, you might try using the turn signal for lane changes. I suspect the "warning" will be silent when signaling lane changes.

Honestly, it isn't that annoying if you know it will happen consistently. I use lane departure, and when I'm braking I'm looking out my glass and to the sides, not my speedo. I don't even notice the on screen alert anymore.
