Planning an ice road trip for work. What should I bring?

Might be fine. I've never been up there myself, I just know you are on basically crushed rock covered roads for an awful long time. 10 Ply rated tires are certainly tougher than KO2's, but if yours still look good, then run 'em and as you said, you'll be bringing flat repair with you anyway.

 

Dog sledding and fishing/hunting will be the majority of my fun stuff.

Those long nights/days without sun can get you down - a little sun therapy helps.

 

I saw it mentioned, but do make a point to run your washer fluid dry of any summer fluid and refill.

A few basic hand tools, zip ties, duck tape, good pair of gloves, and a flashlight will go a long way - truck related or general life. FYI tilt up the rear seats and you will find enough gap below the base of the seat backs to stash 0.5L bottles of water. I got over 2L tucked in those cracks.

And don’t forget to stash a roll of TP in the truck.

 

I would definitely ditch the stock battery if you have not already. Get a more reliable branch and make sure you have some serious cold cranking power.

Yes my bad, I meant brand not branch. Phone auto corrected me. Yeah I would look at something maybe a little larger than stock, and possibly even in an AGM vs lead acid. I have a 2021 with 5500 miles on it and down here in AZ we are already seeing several day stretches where it's 106* out. not extreme yet by an means we still have much hotter to get, but I checked my battery yesterday and it was already weeping a little bit from the heat. Down here in the extreme heat we get 1-2 years out of standard batteries usually. The stock Tacoma batteries are junk to begin with, it's hit and miss for sure, some people get longer life out of them in temperate climates but if I had my life depending on the truck starting in an extreme climate... I wouldn't put it in the hands of a stock battery.

 

Not entirely certain but I know it's dry and liquor is legal nationally.

A Rez is a place all it's own, down here in AZ the Indian Rez up near the border doesnt even follow the state practice with Daylight savings time. Arizona as a state doesnt observe it, we are on mountain time part of the year and pacific time the other part. But take the highway north and you cross into a 30 mile section where to clock is flip flopping back and forth. They do their own thing, and in some cases things will be legal for them but not for non natives of the reservation. Nothing wrong with it just a different place.

This is what I understand from up here too. My wife says this rez is chill and very welcoming. Fishing/hunting/dog sledding will be my way in with them for sure.

I don't know how you down there manage with the heat but I'm sure the feeling is mutual with the cold up here. Arizona is on my bucket list though but going to go in the cooler season for sure if I bring my huskies.

 

How about a couple jerry cans of fuel. If you get stuck somewhere and it is really cold you may be running your truck for a while to stay warm. Also how far is it between gas stops?

Hoping the K02's serve me well. I got them without this in mind but I see most pictures my wife sends me of trucks up there have K02's so they must do the job.

Yeah I've read that tires can be a real issue over weeks of -40 temps. I'm already pretty weary about my tire pressures and check often but I will baby them even more up there.

It'll be almost the northern most parts of Ontario. -40 for extended periods is pretty common.

 

Planning on bringing as much fuel as possible as it is incredibly expensive up there and there are often shortages during times where infrastructure is down due to weather. Not sure how much I'll bring but I shouldn't run on the trip there anyways lol.
