The stock tunes come with vftuner in the program files.
Also, you can Read your ECU before you tune it and save a copy.
And yes, you can put it back to stock at any time.

In the VFTuner folder in Program files, there are stock tune files for your truck. You can use them at any time to flash your truck back to stock.

KDMax installed a week ago. 2019 TRD OR, manual transmission. Probably the best upgrade / dollar you can get. The truck no longer feels dead off the line in first, and second. It has some real punch to it now. Much more responsive. Throughout the revs it continues to be a more linear power delivery and a bit stronger. Very happy to be rid of that dead throttle feeling. Thanks to @SubaruTheTacoma for a professional, quick, and easy install!

You may want to get it checked out by the dealership (under warranty) before you tune it. Might be something going on if it’s idling that low.

Had a chance to Tune a great 2020 Tacoma with the KDmax Performance Tune..

The client was just amazed at the difference during the test drive and updated me this morning that he just can't believe what this tune did for his truck..

Just had my truck tuned this weekend. I was on the fence, decided to take the plunge and am so glad I did. Shout out to @NickJacq23 for the tuning service. He is top notch and was very helpful in explaining the process. I ended up going with the LT, and right out of the parking lot I could tell the difference. Gonna give it some time, put some miles on it, but I'm more than happy with it right now. For those on the fence, just do it. It's worth it, and if you're in Kentucky or northern Tennessee, @NickJacq23 is your guy.

Had my 2018 DCLB OR KD Maxxed last week by @STTTuneShop and I’m super happy with it. 87 tune with SLT. Rhys is super knowledgeable and answered al the questions I had. Even the wife noticed the difference driving it down the block while we moved some furniture. Took a day trip to Bodega Bay from Sacramento and it was the most enjoyable drive We’ve had. Not having to down shift or stall trying to pass other cars. Hit up Rhys for your tune if you’re up in Nor Cal.

Truck is regeared with 5.29 and running 285/75/17 Nitto Ridge Grapplers

Happy to hear you like the tune! I love taking the test ride with MT makes me wish I had one!

heck ya! Glad you are liking the tip in. I’m still thinking about your rims in that blue color it was cool seeing my similar tires setup in a different color. #ScSdeepdishSquad

Check out the first page of this thread. There’s a list of tuners by state. For NC it’s @Jacked05 i think:thumbsup:

Quick question on 04C21. Is this what is/will be considered a TSB to 04C20, or is it more of a whole separate version?

Just trying to figure out if (down the line, once supported) us 04C20's will be flashing a new base of 04C21, and then also curious if we will find out what changes/improvements/tweaks Toyota made to 04C21 vs 04C20

This would be really great. Or at least a "spot" or functionality for 3. I could see people (myself included) doing:

    1 - Reg SLT; 2 - Reg LT; 3) Off-road (stock throttle tip-in)

Exciting potential. The good news is, in the meantime we are in a great spot with the current tunes while we have a single one to load up!

2k mile KDMax update and feedback:

So it’s been about 2k miles on KDMax and most everything has been positive. As I said before, the truck feels light and energetic and is so much more fun the drive. I’m using the LT regular and fill it with 89/91 octane. Either I’m getting used to it or it has mellowed a bit, but the throttle doesn’t feel as jumpy as when I first flashed. I find it very manageable even in slow speed city driving. My wife has driven it a few times as well and was impressed with pep and commented that it’s actually fun to drive now!

As far as MPGs go I’m averaging 19/20. On long mellow back road trips where most of the speed is cruising between 40 and 60 mph I can usually squeeze 22/24 mpg. When I dive for fun the MPGs go down considerably as expected!

Acceleration and driving from stop to 50mph is a joy. The truck moves when needed and shifts are smooth and on point. At times it does feel a bit peppier from a stop than from a rolling start, say between 10/30 mph, but that may just be in my head more than anything. Highway cruising is as expected. It holds 5/6 and runs up slight inclines and maintains speed without complaint. I rarely if ever use cruise control so I can’t comment on that.

I found two slight issues that I have experienced from time to time. The first I believe is a compromise that we live with to enjoy good highway cruising behavior, the second I’m not so sure. When cruising highway speeds it does seem to require quite a bit more throttle to get it to downshift into 4 and so on. This is something I notice when going for a pass or trying to accelerate and merge into a faster lane. I believe this is the compromise for the truck to be able to hold 5/6 longer and not gear hunt.

The second issue is it seems very reluctant to hold 4th gear under heavy acceleration (50% or more throttle). For example, from a stop, it will run through 1 thru 3 up to 6k rpm and beyond easily, but is very quick to go from 4 to 5. I also especially notice this during aggressive passing at speeds above 40 mph. For instance, when going for a strong pass on the highway. I punch the throttle to initiate the shift from 5 to 4. It will shift but immediately shift back to 5. I then really have to stamp the throttle to force another downshift to 4 and hold it wide open for it to stay and accelerate. It’s very clunky when this happens. It would be nice if it was more willing to shift to and hold 4 under a bit less throttle than WO. I’m wondering if anything can be adjusted to remedy this to a degree without impacting highway cruising behavior under light to moderate throttle.

Other than that I love it! Overall the tune is great and driving the truck is soooo much better!

From what Ovtune said, the 04c21 is 99.9% the same as 04c20.
I don't know if there will be a TSB, we will have to wait and see from Toyota.
