Um, no. The Tundra 5.7 just shifts as expected. It has enough torque at 2000 rpm to just go up and down hills in high gear. If you step on it, it downshifts and goes.

If you put it in tow/haul mode and turn off all traction controls... you can roast the tires and if not careful, you will be looking in the same direction you just came from lol.

Understood ref the MPG display. I was focusing more on the transmission learning.
Someone will probably correct me, but IIRC the tank average display will "start over" when you fuel up.. what that trigger is WRT fuel quantity added etc I have no idea.
The overall average fuel economy display actually does not change that much once you've traveled a good number of kms unless you reset the whole clown show via the head unit etc.
The trip average is the display I have up in my cluster, as it resets every drive cycle. It lets me know pretty quick if my fucking with tables has made things worse ;)
Although, again.. you have to wait for things to settle a bit after a flash to make that judgement.

I guess thats one way to look at it if never planning to use the D mode, or 6th gear. I'm thinking in the long run you could end up with an uneducated truck. God knows we already have enough people in this country that can qualify for that.

It won't idle 700-800. This was discussed many times in 1.05 thread.

You can use S6 if you wanted to.

My truck has no S6...it appears locked out, only S5 and lower. I inquired about this on this forum a couple times. I have to go back to D mode to get 6th overdrive.

Unless Toyota changed something, which I haven't heard, something is wrong with your truck. S6 is just one more push forward from S5 on my truck.

That being said, I use S5 for 95% of my driving all the time so I had to go double check my truck today to see if I was crazy about S6.

I have S6 with and without ECT.

I doubt anything is wrong. Wouldn't of the dealer informed me during one of my last toyotacare service visits? Always been that way from day 1. I can't notch the shifter up any further than S5...thats the highest it display's. Other than that truck performs great...runs like a sumbitch. I just figured toyota didn't make S6 available, if you wanted 6th od You can just go back to the D mode.
Picked up my brothers garden tractor with my trailer, he was amazed how it towed it with ease. Said its every bit as good as your old gen1 tundra. Seems at 10k miles it now runs really sweet.

Push the stick up and hold for a few seconds. Should change to S6

Or you can use S6 and do the same and skip the learning logic. I doubt it makes a big difference honestly, but expecting the dealer to tell you that your truck lacks S6 is pushing it I think.

If you move the stick to S mode and can't get S6 to display, something is wrong, be it with the truck, user error, or a display issue. Period.

Well, i'll bring it up to the dealership thats doing the 2 year toyotacare. Maybe not buying the truck from them, their blowing me off or just didn't notice it. I'd feel sort of stupid if this is normal for the model. At any rate imo, its not a big deal, especially if they screwup the truck making it perform worse. You know...if its ain't broke?...

Does anyone here know how long the memory is on these trucks?

Jumping in here as well as I am having real issues with this experience.

Went in for 5k service and had them reset learning. WOW. Truck is way more powerful and responsive - for about a week. Now, it super sluggish again and, unless I absolutely stomp the pedal, will not rev over 2k rpm. I would be doing 30 on a hilly windy road and this truck wants to be in 5th gear. WTF is going on? This can't be normal...

Much of time I am driving around in S3-S4 so I don't lose my mind.

Might check and see if there is a new TSB for your transmission. I had them put in 0092-20 (i think it was) and it reset everything and runs much better now.

Yes, then after you get it towed to the dealer because you didn’t realize there is a fuseable link, they can flash the ECU with the latest software and that may help a little.
