My Tacoma had C load BF Goodrich when I got it.

I forget the tire pressure on that, and well that Tacoma sold months ago by accident.

The 4Runner's tires are at 32psi atm.

Defective. Replace under warranty or get some Michelin LTX AT2’s.

 

Most KO2's balance out fine. I have seen dozens that would not.

You might try having a local off-road shop do the balance that always deals with larger/off-road tires. I've used an off-road shop for a lifted Jeep, several times for Goodyear MT/Rs, which I've heard are challenging to balance, and they've always been perfect at any speed. I "suspect" that typical tire shops and dealers don't deal enough with tires beyond all-seasons. Just my opinion.

 

No one said every KO2 will have problems. Just saying it seems like this particular model has issues. I have them on my taco and 4R, no issues. A quick google will bring up threads about this concern across many a forum. That is all.

If this was a purchase at discount tire, you would already have a new set.

 

Roadforce balanced a set of new 265-70-17 Bfg at E rated tires Thursday ... all 4 tires had at least 80lbs of roadforce!! One was 110!!!! Never in my career have I seen that. Customer was told to either bring a different brand or a different set of tires. We won’t put these your 4Runner . Dropped off a set of E rated falken aw3 ... balanced perfect and 20lbs max of road force note: customer brought his own “new” tires . You just never know if you’re going to get a round or square set of tires these days

 

Okay here's an update... Someone asked about needle bearing...

Took it on the interstate just now. Turned it over to 4HI at 60MPH and it SEEMED like the shaking lessed A LITTLE BIT but I'm having a hard time telling if it's just in my head honestly... It's not like it's shaking and I kick it over to 4HI and BOOM it's butter smooth, it still shakes in 4HI but just a TAD less I want to say. Then again I could be envisioning this. It's not enough of a difference to tell for me...

Shaking is the worst at about 65mph, then gets not so bad up at 70. While decelerating I was watching the steering wheel and it's there down through 60...55... then finally I'd say it's gone at about 50mph and at that point the bumps in the road drown out the shaking...

Ugh.

 

Yes, you're right. Though I would have paid $1,245 for them... These were literally fresh off a Rubicon with 0 miles on it for $600. Still had tire stickers on them. I understand I'm here dealing with it now, but how could I have passed that up? Not to mention I sold my old tires (set of 4) for more than I paid for these.

 

If you can prove that, I think you should still be able to get warranty service. I didn’t see anything in the warranty that said the tires could not be sold and used like you are. New is new and the warranty should still be valid.

I would get your ducks in a row and call the tire maker.

 

Good advice, I will give that a shot. My dilemma is that I will be leaving on this cross country trip in 10 days. Hopefully if they honor the warranty, they move damn quick with a replacement set.

 

Each time that they were balanced were they center cone mounted? Have a shop try lug centric (a device that mounts via the mounting holes).

 

Swap the front two with the back two and see if it goes away. Are we talking a big shake or just a slight shimmy????

 

I mean it depends who you ask I guess. It's enough that if I were to grip the wheel like my life depends on it on the highway and it still shakes some. Some might say "eh I could live with it" but I'm not driving 5,000 miles next week like that... I'll try swapping the fronts to back tomorrow morning.

 

Weird timing. I just put my Ko2 285/75r16 on the highway for first time today. I have a 3 inch level on my truck, 2wd. With my 265/70r16 Goodyear’s I could run high speed- 80 mph no issues. When I hit 70 today, same thing as you. Alignment is dead on, but bad shake. These came from tire rack so I trust the balance, but may get it checked. Or just may be a big ass wheel and tire to run 75mph
