Braking on the truck 60-0 is 112 feet. That’s pretty good, better than most. Don’t see how much more disk would add to that with no weight in back except the bed

Have to agree the brakes suck . At times I feel like I am not going to stop . One of the biggest complaints I have about the Tacoma .

I've never had any complaints or issues with mine. Panic stopping or towing, they work fine. They will fade when towing if hard stops are repeated frequently enough, but I'm guessing OP has never had to worry about that.

Directions unclear. Applied Pennzoil Ultra Platinum to the drums and my braking distance didn't decrease.

Are you a trophied hot shoe that should bring gravis to your rating for us?

    *disc

Tacomas don't have struts either. In case suspension discussion is up next.

I've found most drum haters don't know how to work on them.

I would be more worried about the tire tread & depth/type than a drum vs disc brake difference.

Get a 4Runner and convert that into a pick up. Find one with a manual TC, it's already got the 4.O, and it's JDM.

I never get the ‘considering the price of these trucks’ argument.. disc brake would make the price higher. Or would you rather they dropped features? I don’t know, 9.9/10 owners probably don’t notice what kind of rear brakes they have..

You know what else has drum brakes? My 5000lb trailer behind the truck, it stops pretty well too.

I get tired of warped rotors myself, maybe I need an Fj40 with drums all around!

    Mostly dust and dirt.
I think all of the American midsize trucks have discs on the rear wheels.
Maybe they would make you happier.

Most of your braking is done by the fronts. Drum brakes last forever. Toyota isnt changing them because they work fine.

Back in the '50's and '60's, most cars upgraded their front brakes to a new, better version that ultimately everyone switched to because they where far better in every respect. And here we have the same old responses. Face it, it's money, they probably made 87 million of the for the Corona, and will use them up on the Tacoma. Is the any other Toyota that uses drum brakes?

    Check build thread!
I lock up the rear drums before the front disks. They're fine.

You replace your brake fluid with Penzoil, I think.
