@Minotaur what is your build? Specifically, what grade, cab, bed length, color, transmission & packages?

There was a spreadsheet a member made that essentially rooted Toyota's site and had all Tacomas currently built and either in transit to or on dealer lots. At that point I only saw one identical build to mine (including 1st color choice) and there were five in my 2nd color choice. I'm waiting on a DCLB OR premium & tech (not advanced tech) in Silver or Grey.

Agree with others that it's like pulling teeth to get updates & @bigbadbarty in that for 45k one would expect a little more than forced communication. I don't need weekly updates but I had to follow up on my initial reach out @ 4wk to get any actual response. That response simply said they'd have a build date middle of following week. I mistakenly assumed that would mean I'd hear from him Wed or Thurs for any update. But crickets.

You made the right choice with the Taco. I personally think the Bronco looks like a Kia sol. I was expecting something alot more aggressive looking, but to each there own.

Mine is supposedly getting built tomorrow. I guess I was lucky in that the one I found was already allocated to the dealer so all I had to do was hash out a deal, delete almost all excessively expensive port options and do a deposit. Really wish I could know how soon it will be in transit after tomorrow though.

    @gsubioguy

Yeah, so my build is a 2021, Army Green, DCSB, TRD Off-Road, Manual, Premium Package.

If I were to sacrifice green, manual, or premium package, I think I could drive 3-6 hours to various dealerships in my region and be done. But... it's hard to compromise when spending so much money.

I found one at a dealership a few states away that isn't reserved, but damnit I don't really have the time to drive that far and back right now

Do you know if Toyota will have a different blue for 22?

Back in the early months of 21 I saw a 21 AC OR 4x4 in cement listed around 40,000. The truck could have been spoken for, and was gone with in a few weeks. VooDoo blue in that configuration would be nice, but prices are going up instead of down.

Mine special order ended up with door edge guards and a chrome exhaust tip, neither of which I asked for. The dealer insisted that no options could be changed on it despite being a month out from the build date. It's showing up in the next few days. Their explanation was that Toyota added those options after the order was placed. Order date was mid-December, so the total wait will have been six months.

(Can the door edge guards be removed without destroying the paint?)

My VooDoo DCSB Sport M/T is enroute. It will have been pretty much exactly six months, so that estimate sounds about right.

@whiseve crazy that you've waited ~6mo when a lot of comments on this thread are folks with wait times half that. Would make sense if their allocation requests were submitted when yours was and vice versa. The production getting back to pre-pandemic rates a possible explanation?

If it was the door sill protector I would say yeah but im not sure about the edge guards honestly. When I found this allocation it was 3 weeks out from the build date (today) and my dealer was able to delete all but 3 of the port options. (Side steps, cargo divider, cargo extender, bed mat) all I wanted them to keep was the bed lights, but he couldn't delete the edge guard and the mud flaps. Which I am okay with honestly, they are not expensive for what they are.

Also the vin that was on this 3 weeks ago is no longer working and I assume that's because it is getting built today. Does anyone have experience with that? I figured it was the official VIN because it showed the entire truck package and it was close to the build date. I assume the official vin comes after it is built now?

Yes, my temp VIN worked until the day it was actually built. After it was built it displayed an error as "Please enter a valid VIN", meaning that temp vin no longer existed. My dealer was able to give me my "unofficial" vin about 3-4 days later. Should get delivery later this week.

That sounds similar to what mine was built with. Oval tube steps, mud flaps, all-weather mats and door sill protectors (I think that comes as a group), door edge guards, and chrome exhaust tip. Makes me think Toyota changes the orders after they are submitted to certain option sets that they typically do, or build in quantity, and that the order isn't fully custom.

I don't mind the edge guards as long as the factory doesn't damage the paint during installation to where I will see rust later.. I've never seen them in person so I have no idea how they are engineered.

At this point enough much has changed in the economy, the supply chain, Toyota's pricing, available incentives, and the order itself, that it will be interesting to see how discussions go with the dealer. I negotiated a specific configuration, bare bones Sport DCSB M/T with tonneau cover and all-weather mats, for $33,800 + TTL over e-mail in November before the truck was ordered. I'll be happy with the configuration that is set to arrive--can always add the tonneau cover later.

Where are you checking the VIN? On a generic VIN decoding site, or is there something Toyota specific?

I'm probably not the example to tell you what is good negotiations because I am getting a 2021 trd pro MT..... So the best I could do was MSRP. That being said, thats a good deal in today's climate, and would have been a fine deal before all of this too from what I've seen. A lot of places are doing stupid market adjustments up to 10k extra for these things.

I think since you are buying a more available model you will be able to get something similar (MSRP) or maybe 1k off to 2k with the current climate.

I'll be honest, yeah its not great... but look, I have a feeling this chip shortage is not close to being done yet. Car makers are selling things before they get built, and they are seeing dealers get 10k more than msrp for these things. I find it hard not to believe we will start seeing prices go up from here from toyota and other companies. A lot of guys who bought before covid are looking at us like we are crazy, I think eventually after this, it will be worse.

How are you so certain on getting delivery by this weekend? I don't think anyone else here has gotten something similar besides yourself. I would love for that to happen I just dont see it making its way to Indiana from Mexico in a week.

My dealer said it was in transit and expects delivery on 6/9 to them, then it would take 1-2 days for pre-inspection stuff. It might get pushed back a few days but sounds pretty certain I should have it this weekend. I'm in Colorado, not Indiana. So its only a ~17hr transit technically.

Got my build date today, 07/22. So should I expect arrival around 9/22?
