Just cleaned mine out! going to get some mesh and attach it underneath the piece just below the windshield so stuff doesnt fall down there..

 

Way to revive a old thread. How did you find it It's been off the front page for almost a month. Did you find much debris

 

Let us know how to you do it. I used silicone to attach it underneath. I have some pictures up on page 5. I'd be interested to see how somebody else gets this done.

Yep, I clean mine out several times a year.

"Amazing how much crap ends up there." sure is - I worry that it's going to rust in there - wet leave and crap

 

I cleaned mine out today after I found out about this a few days ago. A lot of leaves and junk came out of both sides. What surprised me though, they were real dry and lose, even after it rained here all day yesterday. Also I notice none of the junk was real packed in there like it was wet then settled. I took a little round piece of wood and made a 3 prong rake with bailing wire then used the vacuum. Worked good.

 

On my truck the problem is small straight leaves. Also they seem to be coming in from right around the hood hinge on each side.

 

Clean it out and spray some Rust Cure Formula 3000 or Fluid Film in there

 

I thought about spraying some fluid film in there but was concerned it might gunk up the drainage holes even more. If there are drainage holes that is.

 

Thanks for the tip, Did mine today, I couldn't believe how much leaves, twigs and dirt I cleaned out of a truck that's less than two years old. I'm going to do it again after the leaves are done falling.

I did mine after seeing this thread and it was filled with oak leaves. The good news is they were all dry. Not even the slightest hint of moisture in the area. Now to fluid film the area... just to be sure.

 

It was a nice day in North Jersey so I cleaned my dog legs - they were full of leaves so it was a good idea - thought I'd post so in case U R home with nothing to do because of Corona here's a good little quick project.

 

The stringy things have stopped falling off the trees in North Jersey and the pollen isn't covering the truck anymore - the weather is beautiful this weekend so I cleaned out the dog legs - cleaned the air-filter and cabin filter - lubed all the hinges. If you live anywhere near North Jersey it's a good time to clean out the dog legs.

 

Thanks for the reminder. I'll have to clean mine again when I get back in a few weeks. Those little rubber pieces are such a pain to get back in correctly. Amazing how much stuff end up in that area under the door hinge

 

Just found this detailing a friends Tacoma. Hard to believe how much crap is in there. This is each side and there is still a bunch stuffed in there.
