“…a quick and simple cougar hunt..”

“Accompanied by dogs, the seven-person group…”

    “…and pulled my pistol out.”

“…never had a chance to fire a shot.”

“The sheer force of the encounter made him lose his gun and everything in his pockets.”

“If he would have been like a foot or more higher, he would have gotten my throat. If he wasn’t wounded, he probably would have just sat there when we hit the ground and chewed on me.”

I always made it a point to stop at Pagosa Brewery whenever I'm driving through. Beers are good, but their battered salmon fish n' chips is heaven on earth.:drool::drool:

    Cougars are out there!

Dim lighting, packed dance halls, damn if I didn't run into cougars looking for younger men, who would go in for the kill.

Fat Tire (Ft Collins, CO) is a long-time favorite. When passing through I like stopping into the tasting room.

I can now confuse the Colorado locals as my truck has the "Phil Long Toyota" badge on it. Texas plated, but bought the truck in Trinidad, CO. Friend of mine pointed out it was the sex change capital of the world, I didn't know that. I did want to ask "how did you know that, but never asked". Great dealership to do business with.

I've had a few run-ins with big cats out in the boonies of Oregon. Like most folks have said, you won't see them coming if they want to take you out. On top of this, I've spent my entire life in Orygun and alot of that time out in the woods and I've only had one close encounter with a cat. For the most part, they'll leave you alone.

I'm a big fan of winter steelhead fishing and like to hit up a few remote mountain rivers in Southern Oregon. I have a hole I like to hit up every February and make the trip by myself sometimes. Anyways, to get to this hole, you have to hike about a 2 miles through some very remote and thickly wooded forest. There are two trails to get to the river, one up high and one down low by the river. Like I said, this is a very isolated spot and not many folks besides the locals know of it.

Being it was mid-February in a remote part of Southern Oregon, it was lightly snowing on my way in. I get to the parking spot and decided to take the low trail into the fishing hole. I bushwack through the snow and get to the hole, start chucking spoons and fish for about 2 hours. Once the snow and ice cold water freeze me out, I decided to go back to my truck for some coffee. On the way back, I decided to take the "high road" to get my blood pumping.

About 1/4 mile of the way back to my truck, I noticed a trail of semi-fresh cat prints in the snow following my old tracks, probably no more than 2 hours old since the snow really hadn't crusted over yet and were filled in with a bit of snow, same as my old tracks. Looked like the cat followed me from the upper trail for about 1 mile and eventually took a turn before I got to the hole. To this day it makes wonder how close I was to becoming kitty food haha. Suffice it to say, I hightailed it back to my truck hahaha

This^. Moose can be angry SOB's and bears will come sniffing around your camp for food if you're not tidy. Get a can of bear mace and call it a day

Lol, seems like the trophy hunters nearly became dinner and breakfast.

Never saw one in my time in the mountains but I think they are the most beautiful animals…

I lived 8,500 ft up outside of Boulder CO.

We had A few moose near us, saw Mumma with a baby still wet behind the ears walk right by our kitchen window. Saw a bobcat catch a rabbit whilst sat on the couch. Had a bear come round the corner of the house 20 ft away from me whilst sat in the hot tub, my dog smelt him before he came around the corner and chased him away.

We’d walk the dog twice a day and saw animals all the time, just got to be aware…

Never did see a mountain lion, a neighbors hunting dog did send a ML up a tree about a half mile away from our house. He let it be, he told me ML are sharks of the Rockies, they help get rid of the weak and injured prey and keep things in check…

I did a double-take on your location when you posted that photo.

Yugos and Trabants are two vehicles that should have never existed! Encountering one on the Autobahn, oh no!

A friend of mine had one back in England, he got rid of it after we ripped him for it. If u squint your eyes it kinda looks like a mk1 golf :anonymous:

Ha yeah, luckily none here in Hawaii, most random car I’ve seen here is a pair of 2CV’s in the Volcano National Park :bananadead:

Ummm, yeah, does the autobahn not have a minimum speed limit?

    and…

watch for these, well-camouflaged, mud-colored, boneheads when you’re driving the twisty mountain roads. Coming around a corner into a herd of small refrigerator-sized obstacles, clattering in all directions on the pavement, and flipping your rig over the side of a cliff is probably more likely than getting pounced on by a puma in your woobie…

To summarize this thread, the outdoors are dangerous and full of terrible beasts that want to kill you. Please stay inside and play Madden instead.

This message was jointly funded by citizens against overcrowded campgrounds, and the coalition for keeping gaper tourists from taking the good spots.
