No SX models on the lot?

Illinois/Indiana have zero of these? Why so. Was looking for one with the 2.7 4wd would that be a good combo? I wanted a Tacoma in 1995 and the only thing the dealer had when I was buying was a black regular cab with no AC. I bought an S10 ZR2 instead. Have had full size GM/Ford since. Always wanted one. Thanks!

 

Nobody has nothin. Supply is low, demand is too high.

 

Inventory is pretty low across the board right now. Dealers in my area rarely have any new Tacomas on the lot. I think most people are putting deposits on vehicles in transit to the dealership or putting in an order. You could search other states and see if you could find one, but there are no guarantees.

 

I think the more important question… OP asked about 4banger and 4x4. I’m assuming AT, but OP can clarify if MT. Is that even an available configuration?

Was looking at an auto trans SX. Lots of plain SR models out there but none of these to be found!

 

I had to look up the SX, because I wasn’t familiar - appears to be a newer addition that is essentially an SR with blackout package (a trim package shy of an SR5).
With this being the case, you may be able to get a dealer (they’re hurting right now) to upgrade an SR via dealer installed accessories. More of a custom rolled SX.

 

Isn't SX a dealer offered package? It's not an actual trim level of a Tacoma (which could be why the OP had issues finding one). I can't recall if it's based off the SR or SR5 though. Either way, OP just get an SR/SR5 and do the dealer "SX" package stuff yourself, will be cheaper and you can get exactly what you want.

 

I don't know. Did find one at a dealer just by google search. I'd really like to know how the 4cyl is with the auto combo. Here is one for example.

Yeah it's just an SR with black-out accents. All of which you can do on your own for cheaper than what you'd be paying the dealership for. So just go looking for an SR, I'm sure there are plenty in the Illinois/Indiana area.

 

Yeah, it a regional thing. Here they are called XSPs. They just SR5s with some appearance upgrades (ours have Nitto Terra Grapplers, aftermarket wheels, Predator steps, XSP badging, and blacked out badges). You could easily do all of that for much less than the dealer will charge.

 

Test drive one first. Our third-generation trucks are heavy, so with the 2.7, it's a bit underpowered. RWD is OK, but 4WD adds another 400 pounds, and you really want the V6.

Autotrader has a pretty good drop-down menu, so it's handy for searching.

I wanted the Tacoma for the size. I don't need to haul anything; I need to fit it in a parking garage at the hospital (full-size Chevy crew cab meant hunting for spaces outside the garage).

If you need to haul a heavy trailer or a heavy load (roof shingles, anyone?), get a full-sized truck. Tacoma is a decent size if you need a truck for home depot weekend runs or camping. My DCLB has a 950-pound load capacity, but the only person in the back seat is my dog. Usually one kid with and camping gear, so it's fine.

Autotrader is handy for searching. I finally had to drove 700 miles to find "that right one" as locally there were only short beds. I wanted a Double Cab Long Bed, but rare to find in Texas. Note, Automatic only in that length. DC short bed, or Access Cab Long Bed with the manual transmission.

 

I have multiple trucks so looking for a run around type vehicle. I have everything from F250 powerstroke, Ram 4500 and GMT400's currently.

 

I was shopping around upstate New York for an SX about six months ago. It was hard to find one. Most dealers only had one or two on the schedule for a few months out. I don't think Toyota is building very many of them.

Also just my 2 cents, but you probably would be better served with the V6. I know my V6 Taco is not very powerful at all, you gotta boot it in the ass. I can't imagine what the 4 banger is like.
