So, did some maintenance on the Switchblade and pulled the freehub off to see how it was doing. It certainly needed cleaning so I wiped everything down and added a good amount of Park Tool grease instead of the recommended DT special lube or SRAM butter. Now my hub is like dead silent..

Is this bad? Went out for the first ride today and it threw me way off but I enjoyed it towards the end.

aka I basically have an Onyx now..

Any South Dakota riders here? I’m doing the Dakota Five-O this year. It’s part of a begged road trip which also involves so gravel races. I don’t wanna bring 3 bikes (2+gf’s). So I’m wondering if I should go knobby tires on my Vault or put gears on my SS.
Can anyone comment on the Dakota five o course?

No expert, but I’d think the grease is fine. There’s definitely a chance it will attract and hold onto fine particulate more than a thinner oil/lube might. Just a guesstimate though.

Need buying advice or thoughts from the collective. I’m shopping for bike for my wife. By all accounts she’s a beginner, and will be mostly riding greens with our kids. She does have interest in trying other trails as her skills progress. I’ll likely ride her bike as a backup/second bike from time to time so I am keeping that thought in the back of my mind.

Onto the options, or lack there of. The used
market is nuts which has me looking at the limited, in stock new options.

Thoughts on the RM Growler 20, or ponying up to the Marin Rift Zone 1? Other attainable options I should look into? Ideally I’d like to stay under $2k, but could stretch up some for the right bike.

Sadly the Devinci Marshall I found sold by the time I reached out to the dealer.

If it were me, I’d 100% go with a full suspension just out of comfort for her. That rear squish makes things easier and more comfortable for those novice riders you want to keep up with you. I’m a huge Devinci fan and the Marshall is a sweet deal. Giant Trance X is a solid deal too at around $2.5k.

My preference is full suspension. While I don’t deny there are valuable skills learned from riding a HT, her comfort and level of enjoyment is more important at this time.

Yea I was bummed we missed the Marshall. Its ok though as it was built up with an SX drivetrain and SRAM brakes unlike the Shimano build Devinci advertises.

I think if you use grease that is too thick, there is a possibility that the drivers won’t completely engage and you will explode the teeth. I think the probability of this occurring increases with the higher tooth count drivers. DT had a lot of problems with the 54t rings when they first came out.

That’s correct. Use the right grease/oil.

The last time I rode this trail was 27 years ago. That day, Tomac beat Tinker in a sprint. Unicoi State Park in Helen, GA.

On the way to airport in Denver. Colorado was a great place, only place I hiked that seemed good for bikers was Cheyenne MTN though. This is out of the places I walked.

Anyways, I definitely want to come back. The 24% humidity compared to the 94% humidity back home should be fun.

Glad to report I never got any elevation symptoms even first day. Running in the snow at Pikes Peak I didn’t feel it at 14k + feet. Apple Watch reported around 98% blood oxygen.

    Hey all,

I was recently given a collection of Bike Friday bikes and could use help identifying some specifics on them if possible.
I’m not new to bicycles, but very new to these bikes.

I don’t know if there are sizes or measurements I can take as they all appear to be custom.
Also not sure how to determine their age.

Unfortunately the prior owner is no longer with us to ask.

I have two New World Tourist bikes and two Tikit bikes.

Please let me know what I can do to help you help me.

    Any help would be appreciated!

Wish I knew you were in Prescott. That’s my second home! Let me know if you ever make it out that way again. I can show you around. Great trails if you like xc stuff

We are sorting out a trip in September. Might be Sedona/Bellingham/SLC/CO, girlfriend is gravitating towards Sedona and doing riding in Thunder Mountain.

    not enough.
I don't htink you can go wrong with any of those places listed for a biking trip. I need to make my way out to Sedona again soon. Bellingham is on my wishlist but that might happen next year. :D

Sedona can feel busier than Moab because all the roads and trailheads are smaller, so it doesn't take much of a crowd to make it feel busy. With that said, many of the people there are hikers, jeepers, etc. and the bike trails aren't too bad in my experience (when they don't overlap with other users).

It's the most beautiful place in the US to ride a bike in my opinion...

Omg. That baby just drinking morning formula like a boss. That's a winning-est photo right there, IMO.
