I wouldn't brag too much about the "torque multiplication" that your TC gives you in an auto. You do know that this effect is at it's maximum when there's a large difference in rotational speed between the spinny parts and the non spinny parts inside it right?
So from a standstill, yes.. you get a temporary boost in torque due to the change(s) in direction of the fluid when it smacks into the vanes of the stator. As you start moving, the effect becomes less and less, until you don't get any at all. Certainly when you're locked you won't get any advantage. Actually, then you're getting the main benefit of a manual.. direct connection.
I'll just take my 4.30 gears and non retarded OD ratios and split ;):)

One big "but" on the Bronco, they only offer that M/T complete with crawler gear on the 4 pot. Damn, why? Lol

At some point I will need to replace my '10 Pro-4x 6MT. No idea what I will buy. If I'm going to settle for an automatic, I'm going to test drive everything. I could see myself buying something like an RCSB 5.0L F-150 4x4 over another midsize.

True, but you see how these auto makers can’t win. For example, when Toyota cancelled the 5-speed manual with the 4-banger on the 3G Tacoma, people here lamented “this is the end of the pure, no nonsense Toyota........this is bullshit”. Then when Ford introduces a manual on the Bronco, available with their 4-banger, fellas here are yellin “it should be a V6.......this is bullshit”.

It’s a tough crowd over here in Man-Tranny world. Lots of control issues.

Just make it available on both engines?!
I'm sure a bean counter somewhere said no.

Edit: It might have something to do with the fact that Ford already has a 4 pot EcoBoost manual (Mustang) and to my knowledge does not have the same config with the 2.7 V6.

I'm not bragging, as I have a 5spd manual. To be honest, it's been a while since I studied it, but torque converters do their job best where needed; low in the rpm range where gasoline engines need all the help they can get, no?

    Thanks!

This was few weeks ago and there were lots of spots. I’ve been coming to Harrison for years and always manage to find good spots. My favorite is the 5 mile bay, about 60km Harrison west. A bit rough and gotta go through a creek to get down to the beach, but so worth it though.

That engine puts out 300 ft/lb and 300 hp easily. The 4 cyl. is fine. I mean that's twice why the Toyota 4 cyl. put out.
Now if they only offered the manual in the Ranger...

The hybrid/EV Tacomas better be 4x as peppy to make up for being 1/2 as fun as my 5 speed.

    Probably they will be.

    But it still disappoints me.

Again, if you're talking about the torque multiplication effect, it's only when there's a considerable difference in speed between the rotor and stator inside the TC. I will admit that for towing, tha auto is an easier beast to deal with at low speed.

Call me old fashioned or out of touch, but if I have no choice but a "small" turbo engine in a veh that large/heavy, I'm going with the larger of the two options with higher output. So, the four isn't "fine" for me, which is why I'm disappointed that Ford doesn't offer the M/T with said higher O/P, larger engine.
I'm not losing my mind over it like some would suggest, I really like the 2dr Bronco.

I believe that the reason for the lack of push button start is because of the clutch start cancel button. Although touchless door entry would be nice I kind of like turning my own key. There are a few minimal differences with having a manual but it's still worth it in a market that constantly shrinking. I would not be driving a tacoma if it didn't come in manual. Get it while you can because I would be shocked if it carried over to the 4th gen even though Jeep and Ford have competitive offerings with a stick.

Yeah until you’re bagging hills and you’re your TC won’t lock up and your trans pan is spiking and about to set on fire.... I drive class 1 for a living and I wouldn’t think there’s any good reason to use an auto but nevertheless autos are becoming more prevalent in my industry too, albeit in a different form...

yep they will phase them out, when is anyone's guess. That is the reason i bought a 21 before they do. With exception of the TALL TALL reverse i could not be happier with my manual.....

Pretty much everyone on here (and that's saying a lot with all the corporate gaslighting going on lol) would agree that reverse is too tall in the M/T.

All transmissions will be phased out within our lifetime. Direct drive motors are more efficient and cheaper to produce.

Honestly, I also wouldn't be driving a Tacoma if there wasn't a manual option. Nothing against Toyota or the Taco, I just don't like autos for my daily driver. Never have, never will.
I guess it won't matter when the EV Tacos roll out, no transmission required!

Agreed had to compromise on the cab size and some creature comforts and being 6'3" with a family that's kind of a big ask. The wet dream for me would be a 4Runner in manual, but unless you want to add 30K for a diesel toys conversion it's not going to happen.

^This. My Taco is not my DD but I bought a Taco specifically because I could get an MT. I’ve been driving off-road and four-wheeling for just over 20 years, always with an MT so for me I’m more comfortable with an MT.

I do have other trucks which are AT’s, which do come in handy. My AT Silverado is much better at towing than my Taco, however when I need to maneuver my trailers back into their (tight) spots in my yard, I prefer to use my Taco with it’s MT; it’s much easier/less stressful on the drivetrain and much easier for me to control truck and trailer.
