This and TSA certified lock should do the trick for security purposes.

Damn that sucks...Can you post a picture of the latch.

The 4x innovation latch works really well.

That latch actually gives me an idea. I could use something like that amd drill right next to the latch as a secondary. Here is what it looks like, it has a male and female kinda closure with the latch holding them together. These are technical terms...

If I have enough real-estate maybe I can fit in the trail gear latch next to it or one of these guys that keep it from opening all the way

It looks like I would have to come in from below, real estate is limited. I am accepting ideas on this heheh

Plenty of room here. I believe your issue is due to the latch locking the gates together and not to the bump itself causing lots of excessive movement on that little latch. If you tie the gate into the bumper you should be able to minimize the play.

Does each gate have a stopper or just the one under the jerry cans?

Just under the Jerry cans so the 95lb tire/wheel rests entirely on the other swingout

If i turn that latch horizontally then I will also free up room for a stopper like the trail gear latch or something else on the top side

Weird so they latch together but not to the actual bumper. Could run a second latch( same style) Down off the left swing out to the face of the bumper. Excuse the art work lol C01A24C4-FCCA-4DCC-93FB-9562081C4A32.jpg

That was also a consideration, to stop the movement off the bumper itself

Exactly, that’s really the goal right. That area just seems like good open space

Why don’t you do it like mine is, side to side? I’m only running 2 gallons on mine but I’ve not had an issue with the swingout latch.

It looks like it’s the same exact latch just oriented differently.

I remember @sdfstop had that setup and it rattled like a bitch.
I was to fix it but he totaled the truck before we could fix it.

This is actually what @turbodb did. ;) :p

    https://adventuretaco.com/mojave-redemption-6-blue-rocks-and-a-dozen-cabins/#photo196

Once I fixed the latch (new u-bolt), I just reinstalled it the same way CBI had originally. I haven't had my second u-bolt break yet, but I carry a spare just in case. And of course, the bolt situation in the photo above is bulletproof (if inconvenient).

A second latch to the bumper would need to be on the tire side, since the "problem" with the current design is that the tire side (passenger) is pulling against the fuel side (driver). It also wouldn't hurt to put a leg on the tire side, like the one on the fuel side, to support it against the bumper.
